Currently building our coop with a mixture of new and old materials. Found a bunch of engineered siding on our property today!

It took a lot of convincing for my significant other to finally say yes to chickens, so I bought the first, biggest prefab I could just to have it up before he could change his mind! It's fine for a few chickens, but I plan to build from scratch or convert a shed in a couple years when this one falls apart.

I checked 100% from used stuff but I did use some new stuff like the roof and hardware cloth. I also cut and milled trees from my land to use in the construction. A good friend has a sawmill so that’s a huge plus. Also the run was built with new fencing but the t-posts were salvaged from another project. A big roof repair project at church scored me some metal for siding. Little screw holes don’t matter when they’re in siding.

First coop was a converted camper with new fencing for the run. Current coop is a converted woodshed and we’re building a new run out of salvaged materials.

My coop is my gram's old playhouse that my great gramp made for her. It is perfectly clean of parasites and is very sturdy. I remodeled the inside to fit the chickens' needs and it is perfect for them now.
