Official BYC Poll: Where Did You Get Your Coop & Run From?

Acquired my Grandkids old garden playhouse, glazed the windows and doors using a spare pack of greenhouse glazing panels, brought home a 'spare' black plastic full size pallet from work, covered that with 2 sheets of ProPlex black surface protection and a sheet of dense plastic foam cut to size between them (warmer, waterproof and stain resistant), anchored to the pallet and the house is screwed down onto the pallet (a mini-pallet cut to fit and set on 4 legs does for any wishing to roost) - door opens out and we can crawl in to get to eggs and clean out poop etc. Bigger than they had, fully waterproof, ventilated, and makes us chuckle every time we see our chickens 'house' !!
Their run I described and posted pics earlier - an original galvanised steel structure which my son and I extended to double the size using 2 old redundant trampoline frames !

Mine is a mix of new, used, and naturally sourced.

Finished today! Cut the trees down and drug them out of the woods myself for the base and side supports, and roosts. Repuposed trampoline frame, hinges, lumber floor the front door and framing, and pallets for the boxes, and tin for box roofs. Bought wire, welded fencing, hardware cloth (clearance), screws, tarp (markdown store), and silicone to water tight the box roofs, paint (markdown), and tubs for inside the nesting boxes, door handle, and latch.
This was a beast to do by myself but 99% of it was all me. about 140 sq ft floor space.

Build my coop from scratch and got the run from TSC...

I checked the first box and then remembered that the doors are the only things not new... they are old screen doors .... we built the first one and then I decided it needed to be bigger...

This coop is for my meat chickens/quail. It's build from scratch with a few new 2 x 4s but mostly reclaimed lumber from an older coop. It works awesome.

Built the coop with new materials with my own hands and converted a 10'x10' dog kennel into a run using hardware cloth up the side of the kennel and as an apron. Run roofing is a tarp, 1"x2" fencing, and metal roofing to provide shade and protection.

I have multiple coops, one for each flock. One was made from all new material, one was made from scraps, one was given to me and the last was made partly from new material and partly from scraps. I dont have any pics but if i did, I would upload.

It's a mix of new and salvage. We sectioned off part of a horse stall that was built into the end of the garage on the property we bought for the coop. Used the existing fence posts, some 2x4's, and chicken wire to make the run. Used premier one fencing for extra run area and just started free ranging them this week. And using plastic totes as nest boxes, best decision ever!View attachment 2400472View attachment 2400475

We bought kennel door panels to repurpose as doors for the run.

Started with a coop kit from Amazon but made some structural changes to it to make cleaning easier (and to ‘swank’ it up a bit). My run came from overstock and I did the same - added some extra hardware cloth a and a fence for some security, revamped the door a bit, planed a flower bed around the edge (for our chicken garden in the spring), and lots of lights to deter predators. I also added a heat lamp in the run if needed during the super cold months (they got one in the coop too). I’m sure I’ll continue to make changes…because this is fuuuuuuun!!
