I voted for Pets, Eggs and because they are so much more interesting than other animals. But I also chose "other". The "other" is that I definitely have a "bird obsession". LOL I also keep quail and parrots. I just can not get enough of birds!!

We, my daughter and I, are new to chickens. We just started keeping them this year. Started because we wanted organic eggs, but now I have to say they rank high on the pet scale as well! I didn't expect them to have such engaging personalities, or to be so sweet. Plus they are just fun and entertaining! We already have double the number we had planned on.

Chickens... They are my companions and friends. I refer to my ladies as my therapy chickens... I am autistic and relate more to animals than to people at times.

My other reasons are pets, eggs, show, and because they are more interesting. XP and they're my favorite animal.

Obviously for organic healthy eggs, bug control, weed control, good fertilizer, very interesting pets, keeping chicks since my child hood, very friendly pets, very use full animals, very healthy, safe and cheaper source of proteins, for low income families.

I initially purchased chickens for eggs and to keep as a pet. however after having them appreciate their ability to control bugs, make great fertilizer, entertain me and also as a small source of additional income from selling chicks and hatching eggs. It is sort of guilt free money that I can spend on more chickens/coops/chicken treats, etc.

I have chickens because of all of the listed reasons in the poll and because they are just so cool. What other pet can do as many different things for so many different kind of people, Basically, chickens are the perfect pet because in keeping them there is something for everybody.

I keep chickens for all the reasons listed except for showing/exhibition. Just haven't gotten to that point, but rather my goal is to concentrate on preserving a few heritage breeds for their sustainability qualities that make them an ideal choice for small farms. Also, I keep chickens to keep the memory of a special grandmother and her mother alive.
