Official BYC Poll: Why Do You Have Chickens?

Since I work with purebred and heritage genetics, I see them as almost walking history and preserving that history for the future. I also enjoy the art of breeding and making each generation (hopefully) superior to the last.

My chickens are pets that give me eggs. I have a few that don't really lay all that much, but I still keep them because at the end of the day I enjoy them and their personalities more than I want lots of eggs. They also provide bonus pest control, and their scratching helps mix things up anywhere they go.

was only eggs at first and then i got emotionally attached
