Official Christmas Hatch! c'mon and join

HOORAY! I was getting them out of the turner tonight anyway, and I had my temps to 101 the last day instead of 100 where it's been, and keeping my humidity down has made a HUGE difference in a day! Many of them are now filling the egg so I can barely see movement and the air sacs have gotten much better! So I decided I WOULD start lockdown tonight like I was orriginally supposed to! Eve of day 18...! They are IN AND READY! :) Yay so excited!!! (and anxious too ;-) )

Great ! I'm glad your aircells are where you want them now...I know you were worried about that. No need to worry about drowning them now. Just keep your hands off that 'bator so they don't get sticky

Cheers and best wishes to everyone, bj

My hatch wasn't due until tomorrow morning, but one Cream Brabanter hatched today while I was still at work. I've got two Salmon Faverolles pipping, and another two Brabanters pipping, so maybe on hatch day I'll have a bater full of chicks! There were 24 at lock down, so I hope they all make it through the next few days. I'll take some pictures on Christmas morning, when they're all nice and fluffy.

Thanks BJ, yeah I was... I'm having a little difficulty getting my temp and humidity up now that I've taken the turner out but I'm also only adding water a little at a time and letting it go for 15 min before I add more because I want to avoid a huge rapid increase in humidity which in my bator seems to lead to temp spikes. I think the temp itself just hasn't gone up yet from me having the bator open to candle and switch them out of the turner I did put one plug in to see if that helps to increase it, and since I no longer have a towel wrapped around (I don't want to deprive them of O2) I have a feeling I may actually have to keep it in until they begin to hatch. So we'll see. Thanks for the good thoughts :)

Ok, so now I have 8 pips. These ladies are just bound and determined to come out early. Now that I say that though, they will probably take until Thursday to make it out completely.

The one that was zipping is resting. Every now and then I see a piece of the shell move so I know she's working on it.

The new brooder is almost done. It will definitely be done by the time the new fuzzy butts are ready to go into it.

sangel4you - I am glad you got your air cells where you want them. I am working on the same thing for my eggs due on New Years. I had some weird shapes and some large air cells. So my humidity is up around 40% now to try and correct it. We will see if that helps.

Just finished up with some last minute christmas shopping. I'm so excited and nervous I can't stand it! I will be going into lockdown tommorrow evening. I haven't candled in a couple of days. I am nervous about my aircells and the whole humidity too. Well wish me luck. Here I go to check them out....

28 eggs still cooking in the bator. Tommorrow night lock down. Various sizes on the aircells and some eggs look more developed that others. I observed movement in every one of them. Since this is my first hatch and have been blessed with so many babies making it this far, I think I am going to put them in a carton for the hatch. I dont want them to drown if thier air cells are not where they should be. Boy what a learning experience this has been. I have read everything I could but still I am second guessing everything! I am going to have a beer, wait for my temps to stabilize and go to bed.
