Official Contest: Worst Chicken Molt Pictures - Winner!

This is my frizzle hen (in my avatar photo), poor thing, always looks "unique". I worry about her during the winter, but her fellow hens seem to help keep her warm.

If only this contest had taken place a month ago. I had a frizzle hen who was NAKED all over except for 2 short stubby feathers on her tail, maybe 3 feathers on her head, and a couple of stiff, naked quills on each wing. The rest of her body was completely bare -- for FIVE MONTHS. I was starting to think she had some kind of genetic issue and would never grow feathers again. About a month ago I noticed some pin feathers on her back, and within about a week she was completely re-feathered and beautiful. She would have been a winner for sure!

None of mine ever looked that bad. This morning my hubby looked in the pen and thought something had killed one of the hens because of the feathers laying around. Looks like a feather snowstorm in there.

GAILSMILE: Can you make the photo bigger? I'm having a hard time seeing it on my laptop!
Looks interesting!

Say Hello to Cleopatra.

She's an easter egger, and normally she does have tail feathers.

Those photos were taken three weeks ago. She looks much better now, and has all her feathers. The feathers are just really, really small. Her tail is about an inch and a half long. So cute!

Nifty-Chicken,
Thank you so much for starting this great thread!!! We are ALL learning as we oohhh, aaahhhh, oouch........omg, ACK, as we see all the photos!!! We chicken lovers all go through the molt with our flocks, but it sure is good to see what others are experiencing with their birds. Is this where I add 'misery loves company'?!?!?

Thanks again, now I'm not so worried about my girls.

Yay Chicks! :

Oh, my. I'm new on the chicken scene this year, but ALEX is the most pathetic bird I have EVER seen! You are going to have to post pics after she is looking good again.

I'll take that as a compliment.
