I like the clearing the mind of my inner dialogue, you know, "shut up in there, I'm trying to get some peace!" The worse time is as night when my body is tired and I lay down to sleep, my mind pops open wide awake. Annoying.
I read a technique and I cannot remember where I read it though I believe it's a Buddhist teaching. It works well for me when I remember to use it
Instead of trying to push thoughts out of my head, I acknowledge them, give them a name and then move on.
For example, a train of thought may begin about my about son. I give the thought an internal nod of acknowledgment, name it worry, and listen to my heartbeat or breath again.
A new train of thought intrudes, this time about the garden, it's shape or things to plant... whatever. Nod, name=excitement, listen.
Sometimes the same thought keeps intruding. I believe it's because I did not acknowledge it's true name. I give it another shot
Eventually the trains stop coming and it's the heart, the breath... the now.
Kanchii brings up another great way to meditate, visualization, and wow, she gave us a beauty! I will try that one this evening. Thank you, Kanchii!
I have some more to add to this, but I need to head back to work soon.
Hope you all are having a good day.
