Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Honestly I wouldn't have known the different breeds before I kept chickens. I always hatched white leghorns in the classroom. I never realized chickens could be calm & docile until I was given other breeds to hatch.

Don't feel like the lone stranger... I knew they weren't silkies, but couldn't figure out in my head why or what they actually were... DUH! I don't own either breed either...

At least you knew they weren't silkies and did not think they were just some variety you had never seen like I did...

Sure glad I never answered the add and bought them, then show off my new silkies here!

I have done so in the past, never got a response from the people.(different add, I gave up trying to educate people) The add never changed. Either they are trying to sell them as silkies knowing they aren't or they really think they have silkies.
For me it's the old Ameraucana vs Easter Egger debate. Most people who bought a $5 chick from a feed store insist that they bought a pure Ameraucana. If I try to explain the diff or point out that the hybrid chick doesn't even have muffs, they may get angry. I love my EEs. They're fantastic layers of blue eggs (not green or pink) and have unique personalities. I just call them what they are.

There are all kinds of people using Craigslist. I responded to a person selling chicks on Craigslist. She put a picture of the new hatches in a filthy styrofaom incubator. I asked her if she had ever cleaned it and she said yes it was stain that she couldn't get out. If anyone lets an incubator get stained like that I'm sure is wasn't cleaned. I copied the picture as a reminder of how filthy it was.
I have had good luck with selling my birds but I am very particular about them and won't sell to just anyone. If I think they are going to someone who won't give them the care I give them then I would rather keep them. I sold some birds to a couple and it was like they were feeding them to predators after a couple of times I said no more. If they can't keep the birds safe then they're not getting any more from me. Mostly I have had people give my birds good homes. I do advertise when I have birds for sale when I go to shows and farm swap events we support. Enough of my rambling.
