Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Try not to let it bother you. I also sell stuff on craigslist sometimes. With sales, there are some people who always ask twice what they really have to have because there are some people who only feel happy about the deal if they have dickered the price down. There's no harm in asking, and I have found that the majority of the people who respond to my ads don't know anything at all about the value of what I'm selling. So when they ask I just politely say the price is firm, or you could even put that in your ad. However, most of the people who contact you will still not have paid any attention to what you wrote in the ad, so be prepared to answer all the questions you already put in the ad.

Like, is it male or female when you advertised a hen, or how old is it when you said it's a year old, etc etc etc.

But in the end, about half the time when I've answered all the "dumb" questions for the person, I've educated them enough that I make the sale after all and start somebody off right with chickens or turkeys, so. . . it's worth it to be patient and not take it personally. Best Wishes!

. I also put things on Craigslist. We have a couple of monthly farm swaps and I put them on and sometimes birds I have to sell or to advertise that I will be bringing them to a swap or poultry show for sale and yes people do ask a lot of questions that were stated in the adds. I just answer them. I do raise show quality birds and like to help others to get started too. Good luck and have fun...

I've had an experience on Craigslist a guy in Rio Lindo, just outside of Sacramento had an ad for Cuckoo Marans, Ameraucana, Columbian Wyandotte, Dominique, Silver Laced Polish, Golden Laced Wyandottes and when I called as the add stated he had over 2,000 chickens and all were laying. I let him know that my mother-in-law and father-in-law were interested in purchasing some young hens that were either just starting to lay or begin laying. He said that he had some that were 7-9 months old and he'd sell them $10.00 ea so we decided that it was a good deal and drove over to the man's house from where we live in Oroville CA, which is an hour in a half away. Well when we arrived to the man's residence the chickens pictured in his ad were not the same chickens he had and kept. The 2,000 birds he claimed to have had were a mere fifteen and only one hen was laying and the others were 8 weeks in age. Sadly my parents declined and come to find out it was actually his 8 year old son running the business and it was up to his son on the sale price of the chickens. So it was quite confusing and he tried to make it right by taking us to some other person's house where this person's chickens were kept in horrendous conditions and had dead birds in each cage with live birds and no they weren't coops in cages like I stated! This other gentleman didn't want to sell any of his chickens and seemed more like a hoarder than anything else, so this was a bad experience with Craigslist. The guy had all the correct info, pictures, egg colors, claimed that they had been vaccinated for Merek's disease. .it ended up looking like he was trying to make a sale and later I found out while google searching chicken pictures I found the same pictures this guy used for his ad. So be careful using Craigslist.

THIS is more like it...

LOL hearing the good things about Craigslist is not as amusing or weird, funny or whatever as this.

It is amazing the people you meet on craigslist. Some good, some not so good. One of my best Friends now I meet on Craigslist I needed some straw he was selling straw. We found we actually kind of new each other, went to the same high school a million years ago. 2 years apart. We had a lot in common now we are coffee and fishing buddies and see each other 4-5 times a month to BS.

The bad ones make way better stories though for here...

There are all kinds of people using Craigslist. I responded to a person selling chicks on Craigslist. She put a picture of the new hatches in a filthy styrofaom incubator. I asked her if she had ever cleaned it and she said yes it was stain that she couldn't get out. If anyone lets an incubator get stained like that I'm sure is wasn't cleaned. I copied the picture as a reminder of how filthy it was. I have had good luck with selling my birds but I am very particular about them and won't sell to just anyone. If I think they are going to someone who won't give them the care I give them then I would rather keep them. I sold some birds to a couple and it was like they were feeding them to predators after a couple of times I said no more. If they can't keep the birds safe then they're not getting any more from me. Mostly I have had people give my birds good homes. I do advertise when I have birds for sale when I go to shows and farm swap events we support. Enough of my rambling.
