Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Weaned from what?? Birds are eating solid foods from hatching.
Not all birds are self-feeding like baby chickens. Many kinds have to be fed by their parents or hand-fed by the humans that own them, or they would starve to death. Parrot babies, for example, literally are bottle fed (well, okay, so it's often a large syringe), which is why they imprint so closely on people.

Yes, I knew that most birds were fed by their parents until they left the nest, but I've never heard anyone say anything about baby birds being weaned. To me, being weaned is something mammals do.

From Merriam-Webster:

definition of weaning:

1 : to accustom (as a young child or animal) to take food otherwise than by nursing

2 : to detach from a source of dependence <being weaned off the medication> <wean the bears from human food — Sports Illus.>; also : to free from a usually unwholesome habit or interest <wean him off his excessive drinking> <settling his soldiers on the land… , weaning them from habits of violence — Geoffrey Carnall>

3 : to accustom to something from an early age —used in the passive especially with on <students weaned on the Internet for research> <I was weaned on greasepaint — Helen Hayes><the principles upon which he had been weaned — J. A. Michener>

Looking for a Pitbull Puppy (Wisconsin or Illinois)

Looking for a full blooded female pit bull that is 10 months to a year old and is house broken, good temperament and not spaded. Not looking for any Gotti, Razor edge or blue nose. Prefer old family red, Colby, Gator, Honeybunch, or Diablo. My number is Thanks

GAHHHHHH. Do you realize how many puppies are currently looking for homes?!?!! Especially pit bulls!

I use the term weaning when my broody hen quits brooding her clutch. It's not always food, as per above.

What term would you use then, for a baby bird (not a chicken) that was no longer being fed by it's parents?

I use the term weaning to refer to my broody hen not brooding her clutch anymore, it doesn't always refer to milk.
