Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

:love:love I agree!

My old neighbor bred & showed Irish Wolfhounds. I loved playing with them as a kid and got to care for them when she went away. As an adult, DH & I love the big dogs - especially Great Danes. To me, that combo sounds heavenly. Only downside is the very short life span.

Off Topic of CL:
Sadly we just lost both our dogs last month. (The sweet Great Dane-Lab mix lived to almost 12 years & the perpetual puppy Mastiff-Boxer-Pitbull mix lived 11yrs. Both wonderful dogs who had lived long lives so I can't complain.) Anyway, we just adopted a new puppy. To my surprise we didn't get our typical gentle giant (although he looks a little like a Great Dane). We fell in love with a German Shepherd-Plott Hound Mix. He's only 16 weeks old & very calm/cuddly. The estimate is that he'll grow to 75lbs. Here's our new pup.

Faraday so sorry about your 2 boys :hugs That new guy is a cute, sweet looking boy!

Is it me or is this poor dog emaciated? Or at least really on the thin side?

The second one I can understand from the vet's side. Veterinarians are usually small businesses and most people don't use pet insurance, and also those who do know that you still must pay up front and then get reimbursed. Most veterinarian will set up payment plans but sometimes if someone isn't a good client you have to put your foot down. Everyone has bills to pay and needs to put food on the table. I feel bad for the guy but if he can't afford it, he needs to make other arrangements instead of blaming the veterinarian. It's a business not a charity.
My mother was an emergency large and small veterinarian for 25 years, now she's able to do spay neuter clinics all over our state, but she still has to be paid because maintaining proper license and board fees, drug license and yearly class credits all add up and you can not practice for free. I do think what he cited for euthanasia fees is a bit much though.

I actually completely agree with you! To just expect free services is ridiculous and also, they say the dog suffered for two days... well why let him? When they said we only take upfront payments, why not say well do you know anyone else who might do it for free or cheaper? They may have given the other name immediately. Or owner could have called around to other hospitals themselves. Definitely not entirely the vet's fault or even at all. Plus they have rules for a reason. If they break them for one person, then everyone will want an exception for them too. It's just not practical. Even if they really wanted to or felt bad, you can't just start giving away free services. Doesn't mean the vet doesn't have a heart.
