I hope the real owner gets him back. This guy's gonna be swamped with calls from people wanting a free bull... Hopefully he's a smart individual and won't give him to the first person who shows up with a trailer.

What I want to know is how do you lose a bull (and just the bull). And, how do you find one, for that matter? Does it follow you home? Wouldn't you, I don't know, look for a broken fence with a bunch of cows running loose? Because I don't typically think of bulls running around like strays...

We were rudely woken up one morning by some yelling, and looked out the window and there was a HUGE and I mean HUGE bull running through our backyard...

So I guess it IS possible to lose just one bull...

I've actually seen a 2000# bull clear a 4' barbed wire fence from a complete standstill. He just hopped over. He didn't even touch the fence. I would never of believed it if I hadn't been standing right there. He was a very laid back bull and would let you pet him in the field, except for when there was a cow in heat. He had an extremely high libido. During the two years we had him he'd plow through gates, hop over fences, etc. He was fine as long as he couldn't smell or see other cows in another field going into heat. If he saw them, those cows were as good as bred.

This is the most common time of year when bulls will break out. They've been sitting around bored for the last two or three months (or longer, if the farmer doesn't do fall calving), and the early spring calving cows are starting to come into heat now. Farmers keep these cows away from the bull because a cow bred now would calve in January, not the ideal time of year. So the poor bulls just sit around bored out of their skulls until May or June... Then they are each given about 30 cows and expected to get them all pregnant within 45-60 days.

Is this normal?
Given that this is Southern AZ, water is scarce, and it is HOT (98 last Friday), I sure hope they plan on keeping that pool covered and don't spring a leak!
