Oh Dishes, Dishes, Goodbye Washing!

I agree, another thing truthfully. I tend to despise our dishwasher, it relatively will get the job done but I have had to basically wash the dish then put it into the dishwasher before It will even clean something.. I figure if I must wash it before, why even use the dish washer? Hand washing doesn't bother me much, I probably won't even have one once I get my own house. But I use it, because to the people who don't use it, it is "better". I myself though tend to hate it severely

I've always had a dishwasher. I couldn't survive without one! I will wash by hand without complaining if there is no dishwasher (like when i had to clean up after my idiot ex boyfriend and his sloppy brothers- three single guys in an apartment = mess!), but I've got sensitive skin and it seriously hurts my hands to wash dishes.
i'll put dishes that still have some food gunk in there, and they come out clean. it just can't be hardened on. If a dish is too dirty to go into the washer, i'll just keep it out and wash it by hand. No worries.

Gah, I'm so jealous!

My DH and I rarely ever fight, but when we do, 9 times out of 10 it's about who's turn to do the dishes it is! I swear, every time we move to a new place, I always insist that there's no way I'll move in if there isn't a dishwasher. Yet, here we are again, 3rd move since we got married and still no stickin' dishwasher!!

Anyways, summation of this story, CONGRATS!!

We didn't have one for several years, I was thrilled to have a DH who did the dishes right after dinner. Too bad I had to go back and wash the bottoms of everything after he was done! He simply didn't get the concept of washing the underside, no matter how I approached it. So I bought a brand new portable diahwasher. Portable, because we were renting. Well, I got to use it 4 times- we moved, bought a house in an instant and it has a dishwasher!

So the portable is stored in the shop/garage for when this one goes out.

Hand washing is fine, if done properly. For those who think they'll never fill one, there are 1/2 size dishwashers. They're pretty cool, my grandmother had one.

We had to haul water from outside, heat it on the stove, wash and rinse the dishes, dry the dishes and put them up, then toss out the dish water and the rinse water. Sounds like you all have had it too good.

My mother got a dishwasher 20 years ago. And she still hasn't hooked it up. Nothing makes me appreciate my dishwasher more than Thanksgiving dinner. And it does a GREAT job of getting dishes clean... even the baked on splatters like when I make scalloped potatoes. Never had one until I was 30, now I wouldn't want to be without. I still hand wash the cast iron and a few pans... one has aluminum rivets that corrode in there, and any with the bakelight handles, they tend to fade and crack. But I love being able to 'wash the dishes' while out feeding the critters!

I hope you love yours!

Been there, done that. I always used the "used" water to water the fruit trees. I have to admit that as I get older I like the convenience appliances more and more!
In my younger days living without running water and electricity was easy.
