It's kinda funny , don't you think, when a hen goes broody, it sends us scrambling for just the right eggs, God forbid we should miss a broody opportunity, LOL
Have to tell you about that goofy Nugget. Today, when I go into the coop, a BR hen is in the first nest and in the second one is another BR hen with Nugget in there with her, going nuts trying to jump over the divider between the nests to fight the one on the first nest! She was crazy! I swear, she's on her way to broody...or just plain psychotic!!
Wow, I have 3 laying hens and 23 pullets not yet out of the brooder box. I have been wondering what a broody hen looks like and how would I know? From what you have described- I think you can't miss it!
Thanks for all the good info, and I love your nest boxes! I can't believe how much I have learned in such a short time!
Thanks, holly. They prefer these nests and with the stepped up roost in front of it, it serves as the ladder up so no one has to jump up or down.
A broody is fun. I have hens who guard their eggs and scream at me if I look at them or say their names, but a real broody eventually will not leave the nest at night and quits laying. I do think Nugget is destined to be my fourth broody. She is a wild woman!
Now if you guys can send me some of that broody fairy dust way over here for my Orp bantam girls, I would appreciate it. OR borrow Nugget and have her TEACH them how to be demonic and broody!
