My ducks have all been brooding since April. I have 4 and at one time all 4 were just sitting on huge empty nests. I knew none were fertile because they hadn't been around the boys. Two got tired and decided this wasn't fun anymore. They came on out to forage during the day then the third one starting drifting in and out. We were picking up eggs every day. My last brooder made a new big best and a friend made one beside her. Every night we let the full time brooder out for a bath in the swimming pool and she likes to hang around while we feed the fish, forage a bit then she's ready to go sit again. Today I let everybody out and her and her friend stayed home. I checked on them, they seemed fine. I pittled around the house for a while and took some things to the porch and my full timer was in the yard, foraging around and squawking her lungs out. Like normal. Then I saw a little piece of yellow fuzz running its little legs off trying to keep up with her. And now we have Sweetie Pie. And where she came from, we don't have a clue. We went into her nest to see if there were others and sadly, deep down under her eggs and straw there was a baby who didn't make it. We searched around and she has 6 more eggs. I don't know if any of them are fertile or not. Don't know how they could be but you could have knocked me off the porch when I saw that little duckling chasing her Momma through the yard.
