Oh no, another chicken.... Black Wound?!

I think that you can buy amprollium from a vet without seeing the chicken in Canada. Some vets will prescribe sulfa antibiotics for coccidiosis instead of amprollium.

Ok very helpful. That would make it even easier, I will go ask Tuesday and get her to give me something for her for coccidiosis.

Is coccidiosis not highly contagious and more of my chickens would be affected? I do not see any symtpoms in my other 51 chickens.

How could she have possibly contracted it from? I ALWAYS feed my young ones medicated chick starter until they are ~4 months.

Today all morning she has been really perky, more than what I have seen her to be in the last month.
She has been awake quite often all morning and she keeps cleaning her feathers and where the wound is.

She's been eating a bit here and there, not much drinking yet, but more energetic than what I have seen her to be.

Still very wobbly on the legs when trying to walk tho, but seems like she is improving some... go figure?

Any tips on how I can keep her from pecking her own wound?

Today she has been super perky, unfortunately mostly picking her own wound... i noticed it is slowly scabbing over in some parts again. What can I do to prevent her from pecking herself? I do not have a hen saddle

You could use a large sock or toddler t-shirt, cutting out holes for the wings to cover it in a jam

Update: chicky is still alive but extremly close to death.

When the wife brought her to the vet initially 2 weeks ago she told me the chicken pooped on the floor there and they just cleaned it up. I asked why did they not take advantage of that and look at the poop?

I am really choked right now... I told the wife to bring her poop in this week as the chicky never improved much last week. The vets took 3 days to examine the poop we dropped off and we kept calling,- waiting for answers, as the condition worsened by the day as soon we were done with the 7 day antibiotic cycle from last week.
I was going to put her out if we didn't get answers today, as she is suffering.

Finally we got results today and it turns out she is heavily hit with coccidiosis... surprise, surprise... I WANTED to get that medicine beginning of this week but they took days to even get around to look at the pile before just prescribing antibiotics.

I am p*ssed to say the least...

Anyways she is on 2 day (cattle) antibiotics now for that as I told them I need it right now and they were going to order another one in for chickens.
She is literally on her last string and i been giving her fluids/baby food with a syringe. She is not standing anymore and barely opening her eyes.

The vet told me the antibiotics will work within a few hours, so i really hope i can get her back to life... right now she is closer to death.
