OH NO! Please tell me this isnt what i think it is!

I was collecting eggs today, and one of my barred rocks had layed an egg with blood all over one side of the shell. Is she sick, or am I paranoid?

It does happen on occasion...she should be fine. Mine are new layers, but I would think there could be an issue even with practiced hens from time to time....

It's happened to mine quite a few times, especially my bantams. Just means she had trouble pushing the egg out (aka she wasn't 'big' enough).

I'd keep my eye on her though... too see if it continues.

My dominique hen layed an egg like that the other day. I checked her vent and she had what looked like a small tear from the egg being too big. I havent noticed any since so I guess she's ok. Hope everything is ok with yours.

Happens with our chickens quite often. I always feel bad for the poor girls.

That happens occasionally and it does not typically mean they are sick. I would be concerned about blood in the poop more than I would about blood on the eggs. Just keep an eye on her. It might just mean that the egg was particularly large. You just want to make sure she is not on the verge of a prolapsed cloaca. Doesn't seem like the case, but keep an eye on her for a week or so.
