Oh no storm coming and eggs in bator

I hope all you guys are ok - with the incubators - i am setting for the first time on Valentines day - but i would be losing my mind - so far so good on the power - stay strong - they say it is supposed to go up to 37 tonight and just be rain -----

Everything is good for now here in North Central Ohio. I think we are supposed to get the second round tonight. Got sleet and some snow last night, nothing hanging on the trees though. I did break down and do some candling this morning (was bored usually I don't till day 18) All my Faverolle eggs are clear, so the girl I thought was laying wasn't, just the one that my roo don't mess with. Mind you I have one rooster and 3 girls, I guess he doesn't like her. Good luck to those who are really feeling this storm.

You've probably been given all the suggestions you can use . I hope your power stays on and you don't have to use any .

I have eggs coming that were mailed yesterday and coming into this :

Sorry to hear that Steve. thats why I stopped ordering in the winter. I have horrible hatch rates due to it being cold. Plus you simply never know how old the eggs are. What I've found is that....lets say u win an auction that is 3 days in the making its for 12 eggs, are the eggs 3 days old, then they are mailed to you another 3 days, now throw a major storm in the mix another couple days, already at 6 plus days almost out of viability. Plus throw the freezing temps and its a no good situation. I probably spent a total of over couple hundred dollars last year and only have say 5 very expensive birds. I hope that doesn't happen to you, I probably just suck at hatching. Good Luck Ms. debbie downer

I am right now on the front edge of the snow - supposed to get 15 inches by the morning.

My power line runs through 3 different trees to get to my house from the street. I'm on day 19. If the power goes out I'm putting them in the oven!

I know what you mean, I have the same issue except I'm only on day 7. I don't really know how much we are supposed to be getting, right now I noticed that the trees are getting ice on them and we weren't supposed to be getting that till later. I can't figure out whether it is a light rain or freezing fog. I've been in my P.J.'s all day, why not no where to go. And convinced BF to look after chickens. Good Luck

did you get a power battery back up? I suggested them in another thread about thermostats. they are made for high end electronics computers, amplifiers and such. they are not to expensive and they will give you extended electricity:

Inkheart I didn't realize you were from Columbus. All family lives there, I jumped to the country 7 yrs ago after being broken into on Christmas Eve taking everything including the Christmas turkey out of the refridge.

This is the post I found:
Please get a nice thermostat. a helix is one of the best. Thermostat issues (like heat spikes and cold drops) are almost always preventable. Best scenario ever is to buy a backup battery/converter. You can find them online for electronics lieke computers(or a music store as they are used for amps and other expensive items that can be perm damaged by a surge or dip). They are an interuption switch between the wall and your incubator. When you use when it stops any and all brown or black outs. That translates to even voltage throughout the day, even when power surges, dips or cuts out. This with a good thermostat would almost guarnatee (99.99999999999%) that you will not lose an egg to any controlable electronic factor.
