I was candeling a silkie chicken egg.... It touched the top of the flashlight a little too hard & made a tiny crack in the egg & chipped it!!! Did this just kill the chick? WaaaaaaaaaH

yup, you sure can. Not sure about colored wax rules, but the regular white works great! Not to worry!

If it were me, I would just put it back and pretend nothing happened. Just ry to be more careful will all of your eggs and especially that one. Some will tell you to discard it but what the heck, if the membrane is intact it might be OK. Certainly there is a greater risk for infection with a cracked shell but it may just be OK.

Practice a lighter touch !

It shouldn't be. The wax should act as a sealer and will keep bacteria out a few hours with a crack is better than the remaining incubation with a crack.

This happened hrs ago... Am I too late to try this?

I would still do it. It would prevent too much moisture from escaping from the crack. Wash your hands before you touch it to reduce bacteria. The worst that can happen is it won't hatch, right?

Ive hatched a chick with melted crayon wax on a good sized crack. He hatched and now wakes me up at 6:00am every day.
