OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Welcome, there are at least a couple fellow Warren Countians that follow this thread.  North east Warren County (Wayne Township) here.

Me too-Wayne township that is!

Ketchum, DH, DD & I were running around Sunday & I told him "Do not stop at Rural King!" I don't need any chicks right now. I seen an email stating they have them, and I thought it was awful early too.

I'm getting 25 chicks from Meyer hatchery in about a week & then another 9 from Papa's Poultry in California mid April. :weee

I was in TSC (Springboro) Saturday looking for Plexiglas to replace a window that blew out of the coop Friday, they had their water tanks and lights set up, but no chicks.

You getting anything interesting chick wise ?

Well ,,mine are getting big...I think interest in chickens is getting bigger every year...Last year with that bird flu that wiped out millions,,,and the price went thru the roof....I get $2.00 a dozen....A fair price....I'm not in it for money,,but they should be able to pay for their keep...They are entertaining also when I get bored..[not very often]big garden keeps me busy....Ketcham

I have several Australorp Hens and I am looking for a couple of Australorp roosters to breed them to. I have a large incubator and will be setting the eggs in a couple of months. I am looking for roosters from lines that are excellent egg layers. These hens are special as Ohio is very cold and because of the frostbite problem I have started some genetic breeding to breed the Australorp with a pea comb. These hens are second generation and are 3/4 Australorp and 1/4 Buckeye. I hatched around 100 eggs last August and kept the best 20 hens that have the pea comb. We then sold the roosters and are now looking to replace them to get new genetic material.

Just went out and took a shot of this cockerel that I don't figure to need, He is out of my ongoing sustainable homestead flock project, which are a blend of Cornish, Brahma, and Wyandotte blood. This guy in particular, while a good stout fellow, is a little smaller. I have larger examples that I plan to continue on with for meat emphasis. He shows a couple throwback leg feathers from his Brahma ancestry, which should not be an issue breeding to other clean legged breeds. This line are good layers of brown eggs, some deep brown, and also produce very good carcasses on the cockerels. They are pea combed.
