OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

We have two Buckeyes from Cackle and I honestly kind of adore them. 😍 Both have big personalities and are good layers. They also taught the entire younger half of the flock to chase our rough collie around. The largest Buckeye began doing this, then her 'sibling' joined her, and eventually all of the young birds began chasing the dog--who, being a collie who also just loves 'his' flock of chickens, LOVES being chased by them and attempts to intentionally goad them into doing so. The Buckeyes in particular are not so aerodynamic since they began laying, but they still indulge him. They'll also still sort of 'charge' him a bit, apparently because they like watching him run in circles.

As I said. Big personalities.
Haha that's so cute and funny! I'd love to see that.

It's funny you say big personalities because of my three chicks, my Buckeye is certainly the most bold. On day 2 she was jumping clear over the feeder, and she also likes to jump over the cardboard barrier I have when I open the brooder door (it's probably 8 inches high or so). I like to take the chicks out and put them on my lap for some bonding time. All chicks I've had usually fall asleep right away. My Buckeye annoys the other chicks because they are trying to sleep and she's constantly getting up to investigate something, stepping on them in the process! 😂 So I think she's certainly living up to what you're describing. She's a hoot.

Sometimes the Swans will eat unfertile eggs. I have seen it with my own eyes. I went over and checked the shells, and they were stinking rotten. The one in the water bucket brings racoons to mind
they always try to wash their food.
I would think if I had a racoon in the pen he no way would have settled for one egg. When my Son had one years ago he woke up to 7 dead chickens and ducks with their heads off and entrails gone. She seems fine today so I will just keep an eye on her. She is still sitting on the fake egg along with some others so I am surprised she would even know it was not any good but there was no sign of anything in the water but the shell and the water was milky. Thanks for your reply Mark. I got my two Indian Runner babies today. They seem to be doing fine so far but are in my living room of course and will be until they are feathered out for the most part or until it gets very warm out. Maybe August???? LOL

These Buckeyes are a wonderful breed for even N. E. O. Susie had some years ago and they could take the dampness and cold well.

Thanks Mark. The little Runners are named Ruby and Scooby by my 5 year old Grandson. I just hope those are both girl names as the is my desire for them. lol

First of all- howdy! I was wondering if any of you Ohioans might be interested in Olive Egger Cockerels? I have a handful from the last couple hatches. 2 in particular are really pretty and I was hoping someone may be interested. I’m in Northeast OH just for reference. One of the boys is an F2 OE, crossback for darker olive with a Penedesenca Roo. He is iridescent black with copper gold neck feathers and copper gold saddle feathers growing in. The second one is an F1 OE, hen was a steel egger and roo is the Penedesenca. He is blue gray with some cuckoo barring on the neck. His neck feathers are turning gold now 😊 and he has gold barred saddle feathers growing in 😳. He also has a little crest from mom’s side. Both boys are 10 weeks old. I’ll have to go out to the coop and come back with some pictures. Here are some egg pics

The F1 was this cross:

Sorry I don't know of anyone, but if you put them on Craigslist, I bet someone will buy them.
