i grew up on a small farm (30) acres. at one point we had around 300 new Zealand white rabbits, 15 or so pigs, we bottle fed calves for a neighboring dairy farm, and had a wholesale greenhouse setup. when i was young i swore i would never farm, grow plants, or burn wood for heat..... i lied to myself, i love this life. i guess i didn't realize how much until i moved away.

goodness where do you live that allows chickens to run free through the neighborhoods?

I live in Kunkle a teeny tiny unzoned 'town' in Williams county. We have to rely on the deputy sheriff to field complaints. Complaints have been filed, my neighbor puts his chickens away only to set them free the next day. I've offered to help him out and build a proper run but he refuses. I believe his behavior is borderline abuse. The dog warden is supposed to investigate cruelty cases but honestly it seems her concerns are rabid pittbulls not loose chickens. :-( She has promised to investigate . Keeping my fingers crossed ......

Live in NE Ohio (Carroll County to be exact)... Have a menagerie of feathered friends but am looking for a good home for a couple Light Brahma and Light Brahma/Tetra Tint mix roos.. They are too much and too large and I have too many for my gals!!! Now have to purchase saddles cause my girlies are shredded!

These are beautiful and friendly guys ( very large) that need their own flock.. right now they are competing and a couple are really tangling! Let me know if anyone interested!

Rest of the crew includes hens of RIR, Barred Rock, couple silkie/ameracauna mixes, tetra tints, buff orp, red sex link that thinks she is a dog, and a several other gals and a couple of the cutest bantam roos ever!!!

My DH is a township trustee, you might try to find out who yours us & contact them, or better yet bring yourcomplaint to them. They have more pull with the sheriff dept.

I love my tetra tints I have three. I had 2 go broody, one hatched 8 of 8 & the other one hatched 7 out of 9! They are the best moms! The third one lays a beautiful xlg cream egg everyday!!!!!

Looking for some suggestions. I'm wanting to get some more hens as I got too many roosters from my first straight run order. I was looking at ordering from Murray McMurray but the minimum order is 15 chicks. I was thinking about 5-8. I was wanting to get some rocks, reds, Delaware, and maybe brahmas. Anyone have any ideas about where I could get pullet chicks from in smaller orders?

Not sure where you are in Ohio but you might call Meyer Hatchery in Polk (outside of Ashland) to see what they'd have available and when. They have a huge variety of chicks, all of the large fowl sized can be purchased sexed...the folks are very nice to work with and depending on your ability to drive up there and flexibility in breeds you might be able to be on a wait list to pick up some on a Monday after they have fulfilled their orders and have extras/cancellations. If you can drive up there you can get however many you want..they have a nice website but most of what they have is sold for quite a few weeks out, unless it's something pretty standard/common. I've heard "My Pet Chicken" has small orders available (3 chicks) but I've also heard they get theirs from Meyer...Good luck!
