OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Are you bringing that trio of Basque by chance (she asks panting with anticipation!). LOL

Also, 6 Icelandic pullets (with possible cockeral added in) showed up on Craigslist around here. Thinking of getting them since I cannot find any Mottled Java to save myself. Any thoughts on the Icelandic breed? I am a sucker for the landrace breeds apparently.
im not going to bring that trio- but i will probably bring some of thier offspring.

Eek! Lost the phone for a couple days (and hate getting on BYC desktop) and miss 3 pages of Ohia chat!

Big medicine, I'm so glad you mentioned the Brahmas at the show this fall. Just lost one of mine and must get more! Sweetest birds ever!
Quote: come up and get some eggs to hatch, im still not hatching them all. <-- swapping material

I think I need to stay outside more. I have one coop that has adult chickens then right next to it I have my Marans/ Silkie (frizzles?) I had 16 out there, it looks like my barred rooster ran away, one of my pretty grey ones found dead no teeth marks, and now one a light grey one is missing but we found feathers little ways away under our RV so dad is thinking I might have a stay cat getting there. We have a old cat but the chickens could beat that thing up with how old and weak it is. I am not sure what I can do to keep them safe =(

your only solutions are:
fix where its getting in, sometimes you will be amazed at where they get in.
put electric fence up around the coop.
watch for the animal, whatever it is - and shoot.

So i just found a guy who raises jubilee orps, black and blue orps, chocolate orps, chocolate wyandottes, blrw and the list goes on! I could jump up and down with joy! I'm going to see if he has any blrw pullets for sale. He's bringing me a trio of black orps!

Choc wyandottes..... Hmmm are they in Ohio

I am in the middle of Mansfield and Lexington, Richland county.

bp11chickens!! In Highland county here!

basque, they are young in these pics, the red gets darker and black gets more pronounced.

again they are young in these pics, but these are lemon cuckoo orpingtons, buff colored with white spots. there is a little trick to breeding these. two barred parents make beautiful roosters but not so great hens, if you start with a trio, get a barred rooster, one barred hen and one buff hen.

Oh, they are very NICE!!!! I would be interested in both if you bring them!!!

Also on sexing silkies - look for the "streamers" on the roos; feathers that are more narrow and longer from the back of the crest.

You can see them on my boy, David, in this pic. Pullets have more of a rounded poofy crest without those additional feathers. Also the hackle feathers are longer on roos. Waiting for a crow or an egg is, of course, the most sure fired way to tell! Mine usually crow at 4 months and most of my girls are laying at 6 months (one was at 4 months last year - over achiever).

I wish I could make the swap...I have several young silkie and showgirl pairs that I would love to bring...
