OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

When is the swap......is it the 25 and 26th?
Lucasville is the 12-13 of October.

Not the swap I was talking about, but thanks. The swap I am meaning is in Lucasville..usually called Trader Days

Yep, Swap Days is just a few minutes down the road from me. The next one is indeed Oct 12 and 13 (and 11 if you want to get there early when folks are setting up, to get the good stuff at higher prices). The poultry show (also at the fairgrounds) is the weekend before.

i can finally post again!!!!!!! i hate it when we run out of bandwidth. i seen we have 3 new faces

and to the Ohio thread. i am in waverly.

is everyone's chickens doing ok from the swap??

if i missed something im sorry, you guys have been keeping the thread active. i could read it for the most part, i just couldnt post.

So glad your back! All of the chickens I have from you are doing fine! I haven't had any eggs from the copper maran yet. Was she laying? I don't know what is going on with my flock! They will lay very well for a 3-4 weeks and then stop laying for about 3-4 weeks. They've been doing that since last winter. So if the maran was laying at your place, and she doesn't lay here, it probably is something in the air here! :)

Chillicothe Ohio here.....Ross County. Have 6 Leghorns, a Silkie, and I believe a Silver Appleyard female. All y chickens are laying, including the Silkie. Just waiting to see if the duck lays any. Want to get more chickens, maybe some Buff Orpingtons.

and to the Ohio thread! I'm in sw Ohio. I'm curious as to what is a silver appleyard?? Is it a duck? I have 1 rose combed brown leghorn and 2 brown leghorns I got from loveourbirds at the swap last sat. I really love my rose combed. She is about 3-4 yrs old and still gives me an egg regularly. That is when they are laying! my flock is going thru a strange pattern where they will lay for 3-4 wks and stop for 2-4 weeks! I don't know what is going on! But my leghorn is still going strong! She is very docile and sweet. I ordered 3 more, among other breeds, from Murray mcmurray hatcherie this spring. They are about 14 weeks old.

OMG. So, my phone camera is the pits, but it's the only one I've got. So today I was trying to take some update photos and, sheer luck, I got this of my isbar roo:

I think that's the best picture I've ever gotten with this fool thing! Some of the other pics came out pretty good, too

He is awesome! Very beautiful. I've not seen an Isbar in person. Good pics!

she was laying, sometimes they quit when you move them. if shes not laying in a week get back with me.
I was going to give her time to get settled in. I'm sure she will be fine. I have them in a tractor. I put a nesting box in there for her. I'm keeping them separated from my flock for a couple of weeks. Do you quarantine your new birds when you get them? I've always read, you should quarantine them for 4 weeks. I always have, but I've never had any problems with the new birds.

A few minutes is a relative term when it comes to traveling anywhere near the Fairgrounds on swap weekend isn't it ?

I always shoot to be there by 7:00 am Saturday morning. I may have to bump that up a half hour or so if I go this fall. Last spring swap hit traffic backed across 23 coming from the south at 7, at least a half hour of creeping up fairgrounds road. Got lucky and parked by the grain bins on the south side of the fairgrounds, which made it handy for running our purchases back to the buggy. I can't imagine how long the people who try to roll in at 9 or so have to waite in traffic, or how far away they end up having to park.

i quarantine for a month and give preventative antibiotics, wormer, and vitamin suppliments. in case where i buy a mate for a "lonely" chicken, i will go ahead and pair them up. in my case i just cant risk the chance of bringing something in.

i will admit i am kicking myself in the rear end over not buying Kirsten's ameraucanas.

Yep, a Silver Appleyard is a duck. Beautiful ones, somewhat similar to Welsh Harlequins. I'm sure Google has much prettier images lol but here's a terrible pic of my gal, Rebecca, playing in the mud.

They are very pretty! I'm not familiar with ducks at all. I loved the snowdens that Mandy had at the swap. I think that is the name of them. The white ones!
