I'm trying to talk DH into it since I found out we're going to Cincinnati Friday rather than Saturday.Long drive.
In other news, there was tragedy in the coop this morning. I went out early to let them out and found 4 dead in the coop. 2 of my NN youngsters (both of the girls..which leaves me with 5 NN roos and 0 girls..), my white rock which I was looking forward to use for breeding, and a young silkie. One of the millie d'uccle girls and my last serama pullet act half-dead and probably won't make it through the night. I have absolutely no idea what happened. None were sick yesterday, no one else was upset like something got in there, there was no blood (the coop is solid as a rock anyways, no gaps bigger than 1/2", nothing could get in), they all had food and water, and two of them looked like they died very suddenly ie mid-step. My 2 grown NN roos that bachelor in the duck side of the coop and have no contact with the other chickens act strangely weak too but no other symptoms and the ducks and Brahma roo also with them are all fine. I have no clue what happened.

are you using any type of whole pea in your feed mix? sometimes they are in black oil sunflower seeds. i think i have an extra white rock cockerel, same price as the black silkie - but i know this one is a male. just so you know, he carries the silver gene (stays white in the sun). it makes the chicks a smokey color instead of white.I'm trying to talk DH into it since I found out we're going to Cincinnati Friday rather than Saturday.Long drive.![]()
