OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I'm trying to talk DH into it since I found out we're going to Cincinnati Friday rather than Saturday. :fl Long drive.

In other news, there was tragedy in the coop this morning. I went out early to let them out and found 4 dead in the coop. 2 of my NN youngsters (both of the girls..which leaves me with 5 NN roos and 0 girls..), my white rock which I was looking forward to use for breeding, and a young silkie. :hit One of the millie d'uccle girls and my last serama pullet act half-dead and probably won't make it through the night. I have absolutely no idea what happened. None were sick yesterday, no one else was upset like something got in there, there was no blood (the coop is solid as a rock anyways, no gaps bigger than 1/2", nothing could get in), they all had food and water, and two of them looked like they died very suddenly ie mid-step. My 2 grown NN roos that bachelor in the duck side of the coop and have no contact with the other chickens act strangely weak too but no other symptoms and the ducks and Brahma roo also with them are all fine. I have no clue what happened.

Oh no! So sorry Shay! :( I hope you can figure out what happened so you don't lose anymore.

Oh no!! I'm so, so sorry for your loss...absolutely heartbreaking!

I had 2 of mine die very suddenly, about 2 weeks apart. I took the last one in for a necropsy that came back that all was fine (except she was dead, obviously). I also took in 2 of my healthy birds from that same pen to see if they could tell anything from them and to make sure they were healthy. All good. So frustrating! Will you be able to have them necropsied??

And I will be at Ohio Nationals all 3 days! Please, everyone, look me up! I will also have some silkies for sale and I'm hunting down some Marans for my friend who can't make it. VERY EXCITED!!!

are you using any type of whole pea in your feed mix? sometimes they are in black oil sunflower seeds. i think i have an extra white rock cockerel, same price as the black silkie - but i know this one is a male. just so you know, he carries the silver gene (stays white in the sun). it makes the chicks a smokey color instead of white.

I not expanding that much unless I hit lottery n retire! expansion is for meat bird's n few oh look at that ones n Guinea s to raise Cain on the ticks back here, wooded lot n woods behind that.

Thanks everyone. Sadly, when I checked this morning, the serama, Mille fleur, and black NN roo Herman (the black NN chick that was my avatar for ages "fabulous") had all passed overnight. I'm not sure how to go about necropsies..where would you have those done? I'd love to if I could to make sure it's nothing that will harm the others.

Thanks, Brian. I'll get back to you on that rock. I'm kind of afraid to bring new birds in now until I figure out what happened, not because they'll get mine sick, but incase mine get new ones sick. :th I'm honestly not sure what's in the feed. I'm pretty clueless about feed still. I don't have it mixed myself yet, just buy the complete poultry crumble from the feed store. There are no noticeable pea or sunflower seeds in it? :idunno

Still going to try to talk DH into going to the nationals Saturday (though I probably won't bring $$ since we just "sold" a junk car to a guy with a bad check and we'll have to get that straightened out). If I manage to make it, I'll definitely keep an eye out for you, blessedchick! Though you might need a name tag.

Do you have any neighbors who dislike chickens? We just had a friend who lost 8 chickens in one night, no cause she could find but when she had necropsies done- all had poison in them. I am not sure what kind but whatever it was the cops questioned the neighbors and traced the poison to one grumpy one. He also poisoned their two dogs (little ones, he called them yip yaps).
