Had my first coyote/fox attack last night. (not sure which) Lost all my ducks but 3, and I don't know if one of those will make it. The chickens were all shut up in the coops, they were safe at least. Make sure you guys are all taking precautions. My son was gonna take ducks to the Madison County fair this year. looks like that is out.

BTW. We thought our coop was secure. Barbed wire, 2 by six's buried under the fence, and 2 rows of electric fence. Don't know how anything got in. If I do ducks again, they are losing there doggy door.

Is Ceasar Creek worth going to? That's not to far from my house.
It's still pretty small, only been going a couple years now. Probably 12 to 15 venders set up typically, decent assortment of birds. As with any swap, best selection is early. Most guys are sold out, or packing up by early afternoon.

OK! Guess I spoke to soon. In an earlier post this past week, we were discussing fox attacks. I was saying we've had only 1 known fox attack and that was a couple of years ago. Well sittin here talking to DH when we heard a chicken ruckus right by our deck. Turned my head just in time to see a FOX run past chasing some of the flock!! We jumped up and ran out the door, I'm whoopin and hollerin and it took off toward our garden. Let the dog out also, as she was sitting by the door whining just before all this happened. I really need to learn to take heed to her as the last fox attack she did the same thing. She took off after it and chased it into the back field. Didn't see any carcase, but we did see a lot of feathers, but no feather trail. DH went in to get the .22 as I took off into the field with the dogs. Didn't see anything. DH came with the rifle. He was explaining to me how to use it

when I saw what I thought was my mini-schnauzer coming up the hill, but it was the fox. She had chased it out. It stopped, looked at us and took off across the neighbors open field. By the time DH got to the fence, the fox was halfway across. He took a shot but missed!

He came close though, because he said it dodged sideways. Now I'm sitting here thinking I'm going to take the rifle and my chair down to where it came across, to see if it will come back. DH went mushroom hunting with DD and grandkiddos. I doubt it will be back this evening, but if it has kits somewhere, it might. What to do, What to do??? Does anyone know the ways of a fox?
