OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I probably have way more birds than you but I have my local mill mix feed for my birds. I have chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys & quail. My mix is very low soy & over 17% protein. Flock raiser is 18% protein & works well for ducks. My younger birds are given a mix of 20% protein gamebird pellet mixed with 25% protein distiller's grain. I ferment all feed.

Local feed mills are quickly becoming a thing of the past in southwest Ohio. The mill I had been getting my feed ground sent out a letter that they were switching to all prebagged feed beginning last month. This was located a county over, and drove past a couple closed mills to get there. So now I get a batch ground when I go up north to Mom's and hall it back 75 miles till I can find another closer.

Local mill here in town doesn't sell feed and the nearest one does but the girls aren't really fond of the feed, sigh. I missed the national this year, darn it. I have been so busy since getting back to work and I can't remember when I was on here . Yikes! ! I hope everyone and their flocks are well and ready for the temperature to drop under 30 at night. My coop is ready for it but the cabin has a lack of firewood. Tomorrows job, cut, split n stack wood.

I'm not sure who would have any up in your corner of the state this time of the year, but you might check with Joe Shumaker (blueface3) https://www.backyardchickens.com/u/108530/bluface3 or Jeff Lay https://www.backyardchickens.com/u/290715/jeff-lay and see what they have or if they know of anyone up there.

I did find Shumaker. He did have a pair. Could only ship. I couldn't travel down there any time soon. About 3 he trip to him from here. I will Def look up Jeff lay. Thanks much for the contact info. I was hoping to find someone thinning out after the show.

Hi, I'm looking for some non-production Buckeyes. I'm in Northeast Ohio. does anyone have pairs/trios they are willing to part with?
Hi, byc has a thread for the buckeye breed. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/803253/the-buckeye-thread/3060#post_14302223. Come check it out. You may find someone that can help you. Or you can check out a breeder directory here: http://www.americanbuckeyeclub.blogspot.com/p/breeders-directory.html A lot of people are sold out for the season, but there are a few.

I've checked that site and contacted a few breeders. I'm hoping that someone has stock left after the show.

Great to meet you, Josh!! And, um, how come I didn't win that bantam pair??? ;)

It was great meeting you too. I tried my best to clone them on the spot so that everyone would be able to have a pair to take home. It didn't work out. A Young Junior from Lima Ohio won the Bantam pair. I thank everyone for their support, and I hope everyone had a great time.

Blanchester has a great feed store on 28 hwy. I'm sure a Garmin could direct you and tell you how far it is from your front door. I pay $12.99 for a 50 pound bag of pellets, layer feed. They have other brands, too, so at least you could choose. My chick mash or crumbles is from Purina, I get that in blanchester, too. It's around 20. For 50 pounds. I must say, if you use their chick starter for the first 18 weeks, the chicks grow up to lay an egg a day. Double yolkes, too! I have EE, light Sussex and production reds that are laying, and still laying with the shorter days and cold weather. They have a light that comes on at 5 am and goes off at 8 am. My silkies and bantems all look good, they were hatched in late August/early Sept. They also carry hardware mesh, hay, all the essentials. I even bought an all weather 100 foot garden hose from them. They also carry the wild game bird feed which is higher in protein. Really nice people there. In April they sell baby chicks. After going to the Nationals and when I saw the prices of the chickens, I decided it's best to raise them from chicks!

I know these are not chickens but I am so excited! My first baby bunnies! 2 of my New Zealand Does kindled on last Monday night! These are their 1 week birthday pics! LOL
