OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Had our first loss of a chicken this weekend. No sign of trouble like blood or feathers or anything and the flock doesn't seem stressed, just one less SPPR hen. Anyway, looking to replace her with 2 younger hens/pullets. If you are somewhat near Shelby/Champaign County and have some for sale, please let me know. Interested mainly in healthy Speckled Sussex, Orps or Wyandottes but would consider any good laying, heavy heritage breed, docile girls are preferred. Thanks all!

Hi!

I'm writing a blog article on Cleveland Heights backyard chickens. Anyone out there willing to share their story? I will probably interview you for 10-20 minutes tops. Please send me an email directly.

Thanks!

Jayne

Shocked to see that after being gone for more than 3 days, our missing hen is back and seems fine. Would love to hear about her adventure! LOL Guess we won't be adding any now after all!

I'm in Lewisburg OH, not far from Dayton. My flock started with just a few laying hens that someone had given my husband, now he says I'm chicken addicted! He has a point. We now have 18 laying hens some are americana's one barred rock hen from the feed store this spring, a golden laced wyandott and a silver laced wyandotte, a trio of silver phoenix, several young standard barred cochins and a couple of partridge silkies (not currently in a pear tree LOL). I lost 5 birds this week to the neighbors puppy, the little frizzle hen thats my profile pic actually, she was my favorite :-( We are also raising meat birds that leave to the processor on Monday next week, I'll be thrilled to see them go. I bought red and black broilers from Ideal and I'm not at all happy with their growth, I will defintely go back to the cornish cross in the spring.

I'd love to meet other peeps in my area to chat and swap with in the spring!!

I wondered if she would show back up. I have had that happen before LOL .... Oh if only animals could talk. So glad she returned unharmed :)
Thanks! I was shocked but happy! I'm guessing she got under our deck and into the crawlspace but who knows? Makes me want to get one of those mini spycams and hook one up to her!

We went to the one in October but made the mistake of going Sunday instead of when it started on Satuday. They said most of the good stock was already sold or at another show that day in Greenville. We'll definitely be going on Saturday in April and maybe even bring some of our SPPRs to sell!
