OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hi Delcochix, were going to be over your way in the morning. There's a kids fishing derby at the marina at the state park. The grand kids have a ball....so does grandpa! Meredith state is the next road over from me. Small world. Right now I have 24 chickens but my son is taking about 6. I started out intending having 6 or 8. Lets see, I have two buff orphingtons (I think one is a roo), two gold laced Wyandot, five buckeyes, and four americaunas that are all two months old. Then there is six Rhode Island reds and five silver laced polish (I love the Mohawks) these are all one month old. Plus I got three baby ducks. I supposedly bought all hens, but I know there is at least one rooster and I think there might be another one, and that's only in the older ones. Who knows about the younger ones. Guess I will find out soon enough.
Sounds like you already have a case of 'chicken math!' Too late...no help for you now I'm afraid...the only cure is another cockeral or two, and I can help! :)
Sounds like you have a great variety! I loved the SL Polish we used to have, "Phyllis." I LOVE my Buckeyes, they are the most personable of any breed I've had. Very sociable, and I have them from both Meyer Hatchery and private breeder. Just really nice birds. You're going to have a nice variety of egg colors too, especially with the Ameracaunas--I wish I had some since they only lay the blue shaded egg, I have 3 older Easter Eggers and fortunately they do lay a pretty blue egg but you can end up with blue, green, pink,etc...I also have either 3 or 4 (not sure of the one) EE pullets so will be interesting to see what I end up with egg-wise--they were sold as Ameracaunas but as they began to grow I learned they weren't. Oh well, they're cool to look at.
Hope the fishing derby at the park went well--the marina is probably 2 miles due west of us across the lake---sounds like a fun time. Sure had a lovely day for it. We've been working on rehabbing our big coop so the new pullets can move in...not as much fun as a day att he park, but not bad.

im not sure what the difference is in tylan and penicillin. I think they are two different antibiotics altogether. I just know the tylan (I use 200 but 50 works well too) seems to do so much better, and faster.

with the infection, you run a higher risk of lice and mite infestation. keep an eye around the vent area for this. mites may attack by the eye for blood, spots may also show up on the comb.
Good to know! I'll keep a watchful eye out for that. I'm keeping her in a pen in the house until she's fully recovered tho. Thanks!

im sorry, sometimes I come off a little short. ive also said before I realize how negative I sound. its not my intention to come off as a grumpy old man, to anyone.

there are people out there who breed for just egg color. I myself bred for deepest blue on my easter eggers. unfortunately this past spring I sold all of them and switched to more "showable" birds. I can check and see if the guy who bought them will sell any if you don't find a good offer soon.

That would be great, if you would. I bought some Ameraucana hatching eggs from show lines, and the egg color stinks.

Hi Delcochix, no more chicken math here. I don't have the room and what I have gone thru to get one coop built that isn't finished yet. I sure am not asking for another one. And no more Roos here. I am sure I have two now and afraid there is more. I ended up not going to the fishing derby. Hubby and kids and grand kids went and had a good time. Well after reading your post about the ameracaunas and Easter eggers I looked them up on line and mine are probably Easter eggers also. I really don't care, I just wanted the blue and green eggs. Would love to have pink too. Will have to see what they are after they start laying. Years ago we used to have a small camper at a private camp grounds on the east side of the lake. We kept a bicycle for two there and used to ride it all over those back roads. That's when we were young! LOL

With all the recent talk of chicken math and blue egg layers, I would like to add that I have "true" Araucana (tufted, rumpless) hatching eggs for sale. Please PM me if you are interested!

ill ask for public information, are your eggs pretty deep blue? also what colors are the birds? egg size? anything else you would like to add?

the tufted rumpless are the closest to the original imported bird, and should have the best blue egg genes.

I was driving through Condit tonight and notice that someone had built a good size enclosure near the corner of Hartford Rd. and Condit Rd. It was full of chickens, but I couldn't see what kind. Anyone know whose set-up this is? Very impressive looking.

The eggs I'm selling have some green in them still. One hen in this pen lays a pretty blue egg, another's is more green. The rooster is single-tufted and a mix of colors; he's Birchen split with wild type. All the hens are clean-faced. Everybody's a nicely balanced rumpless, but one hen has a few stray tail feathers. There are two wild type hens in this pen, one pretty standard "red duckwing," the other heavily melanized. The remaining hen is brown red. This group has been giving me a mix of Birchen and wild type chicks. If anyone is interested in these eggs, I can post pics of the parents.

Yes, I know who lives on the corner of Hartford and 605 in condit. I don't think they are on this list. Actually, they just built that enclosure about two weeks ago. I live on out Hartford road from there about a mile.
