OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I feel like such a hillbilly. We are turning a old boat and some crates that my DH is getting from work into a chicken coop. Dad has some pretty cool ideas I can't wait till its done. Does anyone else have a hick set up?
i have a hick setup, made by a hillbilly. you do what you can, and improve when you can.

Hillbilly is not a bad thing at all. We are creative with what is around us. I have been thinking of coop ideas for a while and we are on a tight budget but I think we found a way to build a pretty big coop for the winter that should keep all of them warm, which was my biggest concern. However we only have 2 weeks to get it done cause my dad has to have surgery soon (he is the main builder)

do you remember my coop up on the hill on the right side of my house? if it helps it was beside the turkeys, the heritage rhode island reds pen. that is by far my best building for overwintering. we have been talking about building a few more, for other large breeds.

I like your set up, you really use every bit of everything you have =)

i try to plan around in ways to use my waste, and im not above pulling a few nails. something else that makes a good quick and cheap coop is an old truck camper shell. its a little hot in the summer but great in the winter.

We actually used a waste board left from when we built the horse barn to make a trough feeder for the grow out ducks. To bad they are terrified of the feeder!

Mine is made of old privacy fence and recycled shingles. ;)

adding coop space is the worst part about getting new chickens. i just wrote a member page about going from a hobby to a business, and the coop/cage is a major reason our business is still in debt.

if anyone is interested here is the article. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/from-chicken-hobby-to-chicken-business-in-4-years

Very interesting article, Brian! I enjoyed reading it! And as I mentioned before, I am a bit envious of your setup. :D
I'd love to transition into small business some day. DH thinks our current 35 is too many. Muahaha.
