and to the Ohio thread!!!

Minihorse, they're just 8 months old, which is what Lloyd told me to expect on laying. They're still filling out! I can't believe it. I cleared out the "cache", marked one and left it so I'd know which it was, and now I can start getting a sense of who's laying and how many :)

OHhappychicks, all my birds slowed was down in August -- I don't know why, but I've heard from a lot of people in the area ho had the same problem. Maybe it was atmospheric or something, I don't know!

Blessedchick, I can't wait to see your silkie babies!!! SOOO looking forward to Delaware! And see, that's another reason not to give up on silkies -- I need broodymamas!

Yeah, I need to slow down this winter. Probably not as much market for chicks, and I can only keep maybe 50 in the house at any given time -- and that's when they're little! 4-5 weeks I really can't accomodate more than a dozen -- and I am NOT putting a tarp down in my kitchen again this winter!

Last winter's madness:

And that was before I built the 3x6 grow-out pen and stuck it under the table...
That is too Funny!!! I love my chickens, but not sure I want that many in my house! Maybe my showgirls. That is the exception!!

I like it. Think I need a room like this.
I keep my new chicks in my utility room in a large aquarium. They stay in there until they outgrow it, about 2 wks. The ones I bought from minihorse927 are in there right now. Not sure what we are going to do with them when it is time to move them. We've never had chicks this late in the season. We have a small enclosed pen we put in the big coop when our broody hatched some out this summer. We may have to put them out there with the heat lamp on them. They should be about 3 weeks old by then. Will have to see what the weather is then. Maybe I'll have to clean out one of the empty bedrooms!!

My daughter has a huge walk in closet I'm thinking about cleaning out so I can use it. She doesn't have anything in it so it is just used for storage right now. Hmm plus dh never goes up there lol

Oh, plastic storage totes work great for grow outs. Cut most of the top off and stsple chicken wire on it. I've seen some really big ones I'm thinking about getting for winter. I am debating on hatching silkies and showgirls all winter. Lol

I heard a sneeze in the coop this morning. Not sure who the culprit was. A sneeze could be just a sneeze I guess, but I noticed yesterday one of the brahmas had a wonky (closed, slightly swollen) eye. I thought it was maybe just a case of "bully pecked me in the eye", but separated her anyway. So, better to be safe than sorry.. I have some VetRx here, and going to get my hands on some Tylan and vitamin supplements asap and treat everyone. Any other recommendations for what I HOPE is just a vitamin deficiency, cold, or minor respiratory thing (or even better, a simple sneeze)?
