OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Thank you!! Would love to have a new breed in the mix. I know where Waynesville is located I grew up in Clinton County. Sounds like a day trip. Will need to get with you when the weather is better for travel. Thank you again for your generosity.

I got to warn you though. Getting your first Brahma can be a dangerous thing. Pretty soon you get to noticing how your other birds seem to look rather plain, or act kind of flighty compared to your new Brahma. Soon you find yourself looking to get more Brahmas, eventually replacing all your common chickens with "The Majestic Ones" as the American Brahma Club call them. They don't tell you this stuff at the website, or in the literature. So be advised before you take that first step,

You might be one of those rare people who don't fall hard for Brahmas. There is no accounting for taste, I give you Steeler fans as an example. But if you haven't been dropped on your head as a baby, (which may account for a high percentage of the first example, as many do seem to display a flat spot on their head), I may see you at the Brahma club meetings at the Ohio Nationals in a few years.

I didn't get that warning before placing 11 brahma eggs in the incubator for my New Year's Day hatch. At 5 days old I can already see a difference in personalities from the RIR's. I can put my hand in the brooder and one of the brahma's will climb onto my hand while the RIR's run.

It's always nice to find a neighbor here on BYC, big medicine I am just up the road a few miles in Spring Valley.

Another down side to getting Brahmas is some people can go into deep funk when they realize how much money, feed, sweat and years they put into raising common chickens, when there were Brahmas available the whole time. It's best not to dwell on it.

I spent several years living on Roxanna - New Burlington Road, had a Waynesville address, but much closer to Spring Valley.

Wow... where is everyone?
Its -12 with a wind chill of -35 here in Miami County!!

Welcome to the group OpalJeansmom

Brrrrr!! As far as I know, the temp + wind chill has only dropped to -28 here in Lucasville. Worried sick about my animals outside, although we did bring in the majority of chickens for the night lol. Hasn't been this cold out since I was in grade school.

Our chickens are shut up in the coop and faired fine last night. Just feed cracked corn and oats on top of everything else, before they roost. It does depend on which breeds you have too?? We have 1 RIR and 5 Barred Rocks. Which are hardy breeds. We don't use any heat or bulb either. Just a draft free actual wooden coop.

Does anyone on here know of any leads to SQ black Naked Necks? I found someone on here who's in Florida but I would prefer something closer if possible( doesn't necessarily have to be from Ohio just near here ). This will be for next year.
