I was in 4-H as a kid. Showed beef cattle. Contact the Extension Office for your county. They can give you more info and hook you up with a local club. The club should teach him what he needs to know and what to expect.

Hi all.
I'm in the southern Madison County. This is my 2nd year being a chicken mommy. let me just say, I'm hooked. I started out with Golden Comets and Black Giants. I now have 20 new babies in the brooder. My question is, does anyone do 4 H? My son is entering this year, and we know nothing about showing chickens. PLEASE HELP. Thanks

Oh god! Looks like I'll have to stay out of there for awhile! I've been toying with the idea of getting a few hatchery birds just to feed my addiction since I haven't gotten any from my own birds yet. I may have figured out why I wasn't getting fertile eggs, but only time will tell.
Any luck, or still to early to tell?

I'm in New Lexington Ohio(Perry County). Where do you guys suggest finding adult chickens at? Or not so young juveniles? I have some breeds I am interested in but I just don't think I am going to find a trio without spending a small fortune. Blue or black Sumantra, welsummer, silver or golden pheonix, sicilian buttercup. Wouldn't even mind having a trio of game fowl. I found some golden comets on craigslist but I would like some not every one has.

Places I have found to order I would need to order way more than I can currently house. I have a white hen now. Had a red rooster but lost him recently. Both were my 2 year olds pets. If I could find a trio that would be great. He will have his pets plus I'l have an omelet every now and then. :)

hi all! well I messed up today at tsc, could have had four bantams, were the last four, but they only sell six birds at a time; so I didn't want to mix two ducklings in since I wasn't sure I could. just read I could possibly brood chicks with ducks, dang, crap, crap!!! trying to talk hubby to going back before I go to work isn't working. looks like I running back over tomorrow.lolol!!I will keep them apart since ducks are so much bigger than the chicks, I worried the bantys will be squished.
