OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Yay for duck eggs! If they are dirty then wash them and if they feel waxy and not rough shelled then they are duck eggs. I am waiting on the calls to get busy. They haven't even hit spring molt due to the weather. They won't be laying till June or July at this rate.

I guess with the new barn going up that is a good thing though. My greys I bred last year are laying and trying to make a nest already but I broke that up today. To cold, no call babies yet!!!

Yeah I was going to look for some at Ross county next month too. Hopefully the switch will be good for it and bring out better..quality this year.

Good to know they might know where home is then, just have to figure out the not-becoming-dogfood issue now.

those 4 guineas, they may be hens, but boy they are nasty to the dogs. They peck my rottweiler right in the face and she just walks by them to deserve this! Plus their annoying screeching tends to scare my dogs off. The neighbors dogs do not show up here anymore after the last "incident" with them.

I had guineas pinned as nervous, walking drumsticks. Good to know too that they'll put up a fight! It's really mainly one dog I'm worried about. Most of mine are penned up. My house dog would rip them to shreds given the chance but he usually goes out on a lead now to avoid bringing home ticks and fleas. My neighbor/cousin has a coonhound mutt I'm worried about. Now I feel compassion for all animals and want the best for them all. I have never wished death on any animal except this dog. I hope every day he gets hit. DH came in yesterday and said he finally hit him (he chases our car up and down the road) and I was too excited. He only gave him a limp, though, sadly. This dog hates me as much as I hate him. He gets along with every other dog on the street (over a dozen) except my ancient house dog..he tries to kill him when he sees him. He chased and bit my DH when he was jogging by. I can't be the cause of anything happening to him (hit, dog pound..) though because we're already on awkward terms with the cousins and I don't want to make it worse by offing their dog.
Didn't mean to ramble on about that. Point is that mutt may be the only reason I don't have guineas. The dog accompanies cousin's DH on his hunting excursions so I have no doubt he'd chase a loose bird.

Ooh! Yes, they were waxy! Hooray! :weee
This weather. Oh yes. It'll be too soon if we ever have another winter like this again.

Yay for definite duck eggs!

400
our new layer replacements for this fall. 6 tetra tints, 2 Easter eggers, and a half blind golden comet. She was blind when she was received at the store and no one wanted her cause her eye was infected on top of her being blind in it. Doing ok now, most of the infection is gone. Been spraying with vetricyn daily and it's clearing up.

I am looking for some new hens, not too old or young, to add to my flock. We only have 6 right now and I'd like to add some.

If you have any let me know what breed, how old, where you are,how much each, and how long they've been laying.

Thank you.
Terry

Well, one of my chocolate orpington Bantam is trying to go broody. Well this sucks because everybody's running together and I'm not going to get any. chicks out of this. Disappointed! then to top it off, I spoke too soon about to call ducks yesterday, I found three call duck eggs this morning. These three eggs were from last year's babies. Uhg!

Ooh, when I put the ducks away tonight, I found 2 shiny new eggs in the duck half of the coop! Granted, the chickens do have access to it during the day, but as these two were NOT in a nice, clean nest box and instead plopped down any ol' where..right in the middle of the dirt floor..are white, and noticeably larger than even my biggest chicken eggs, I'd say I have my first duck eggs!! About time, considering they're all at least a year old.. So egg-citing! They're going to have the honor of being baked into my DS's birthday cake this week, and I can finally find out if the hype about ducks eggs being better for baking is true. :yesss:

Just finishing up my first year with chickens, so I am still learning. Forgive my ignorance but.......do people eat duck eggs? I have never heard of that.
