Buckeyes are a dual purpose breed. They produce an ample amount of eggs and a nice carcass. A well bred buckeye should give you well over 150 eggs a year.

Over the last couple months I've been getting my feed custom mixed with what I wanted in it. I have discovered something over the last few days when I ran out of my custom mix feed and had to go buy the stuff I used to feed before I had custom mix. I used to feed purina flock raiser and mix in cracked corn or scratch grains with it. Over the last couple days of feeding it again, these chickens and ducks will not eat it they will eat anything else they can find before they touch that feed. I will be so glad when I can pick up my feed again on Saturday and get them back on this new feed!

OHfarmerswife, how'd the OE/EE turn out? The lonely pullet I kept started laying this week. The 3 roos are pretty, but two need homes! The one I'm going to try to make into a little project. I'll get some pictures of him.

i made a 3'x5'x 2'h cage for my 3wk old chicks out of 1/2" hardware cloth. they were getting a little big for the storage tote. I got them in there for the night, but I still want to add some legs and a catch pan underneath for the droppings.

the larger dark bramha's were getting picked on and lost some back feathers due to picking from the others. hopeing that the larger cage will solve the problem.

I wish I could put them out, there not feathered completely yet. plus northern ohio is a little colder than you guys. just got back from hocking hills yesterday and there was a 20* difference.
