OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

hey toni put large storage totes underneath the roost and when they get partlyor full then empty them
There is no room up there. The roost is basically the edge of the nest box tops built up with 2x4's. The poop board is the roof of the next boxes, and some of the hens actually roost on that instead of the 2x4. The coop roof won't let the roost be any higher. So I need to reconfigure the whole interior, lol

i have a question what are the laws for raising ringneck pheasent in ohio
you need to contact ODNR to obtain a license. there are 3 different types of licenses. I've never raised them before but most I have seen keep trios but I have see. large scale operations keep 8 to 10 hens per rooster

Lovely day here in Ohio! Was able to scoop more leaves into my coops for bedding and the kids got to run amuk in the yard under supervision. Mice are an issue now. They are trying to come 8n the house and my coops. Traps set everywhere! They don't run around the coop or run in the daylight they wait till dark.

It was, indeed, a beautiful day in Ohio. I had planned on putting up plastic around the coop and run, but it was too windy here to deal with large plastic sheeting. We did, however, get most of the wood strips cut for it. Will be wrapping the edges of plastic around the wood strips and then screwing the wood to the frame of the coop and run. If we just staple it, the wind will rip it away. Will be doing 3 sides, so there will be plenty of ventilation, it's mostly to keep rain, snow, and wind at bay.

I started doing a final coop cleaning before the nasty winter weather comes. Got half of my show shed done, have to finish the rest tomorrow. I also added some more lights to the coops, to help encourage them to start laying. I only have 2 brahma laying, and 2 Easter Eggers, out of about 35-40 pullets/hens, and I just got a new(for me) GQF cabinet incubator and want to test it out. And I don't want to hatch any of the EE eggs, they're just for eating, so I guess I'm just putting in my Brahma/Speckled Sussex eggs for now. I really wish my bantam white polish would start laying, so I could potentially show some of the offspring at a late spring/early summer just for the practice, but looks like they are holding off. Probably need to put some lights on timers in the show coop for them.

Yes, yesterday was a beautiful day, as is today supposed to be. I am trying to get the finishing touches on the "Taj Ma Chicken"
coop that I am building. Its a 16X12 building built like my home, a Cape Cod style.
I have to finish putting up the fencing and start putting the vinyl siding up. Will post pics upon it's completion.

Today we spoke to an eye surgeon fir my hubby's cataract. Dec 28th he gets that done. So after we came home we used the 12 eggs (for the week )we had from the 15 hens and made noodles. so now I need more eggs to bake a cake today and I really do not want to go buy store eggs. grrrr! The girls have yet to return to laying after molt. 3 months of 3 a day at most, I am going nuts!
