our night roost is the only roost, it's on top of the nests and we had to put a ramp up to it. I want to revamp the coop interior, move the next boxes down and over to where the roof is highest, so I can have the roost in the middle of the board. Right now the roost is an extra 2x4 on the edge of the board. Put in the double board so the dominant hen and rooster can sit higher than the others. Two ramps up to the roost so the dominant ones can't block the others from the roost. Yes, I know how evil they can be, lol.

Nice set up ToniTalley. I am starting my 4 th year with chickens & we are building 5 new breeding pens. We already have a layer coop, 2 coops for Swedish Flower Hens, a coop for my new Isbars, a brooder insulated pen & a grow out pen. Each time I have said "well that's the last coop we will need". Seems it's a constant construction project.

He gave me the back of the barn but then again he got a new pole barn.

@Farmer's Wife...you have a lot going on there in your chicken world! We have 1 coop, 4 ft wide 12 ft long, and the coop part is raised so they have the full footprint as their run. Since it's inside the fenced in pond area, we let them out every morning and close them in at night for protection. We have 6 chickens, 1 rooster, 5 hens, 4 that lay and 1 freeloader. We only took them in as they needed a home, and will not be getting more. Love the eggs for our own use, but don't want to get into more than that. Now if I could only get rid of the evil rooster! He hates me and constantly tries to get at me.

Hello all new peeps

Does anyone want a buff brahma rooster? He's a year old, nice to me, but a bit vigorous with the girls. He does not appreciate other boys with his girls. Not a good thing in my coop...

Oh, and I agree with Meyer Hatchery. I go there to get my feed. I get chicks there to add to my laying flock. My girls go with me to get the Banty pets...

Don't put up with bad roosters. Carry a can of hairspray,squirt bottle of vinegar water or something else and squirt him when he comes at you. Give it a try.

In cold weather, it's not problem with the rooster. With my long heavy coat and muck-out boots, I can't even feel him and he gives up quickly. In warmer weather, I use a rake to keep him at arms length, or take the dog in with me. He is afraid of the dog, and one word from me and good old Red will chase him away. I will try the vinegar water this summer, it sounds easier than dragging the rake around with me.

Which hatchery to you prefer in Ohio??

This is the 1st year I have mail ordered birds. I have rec'd my shipment from Meyer Hatchery just last week. Meyer is about 4 hours drive time from me (each way). Meyer packed them in a small box with a heat pad. They arrived safe and are doing great. No complaints here.
