OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

We swap drinkers for Folgers coffee tubs, those get swapped as needed for fresh. We drag 5 gallon buckets of water out to tend 11 stalls/coops... winter sucks... can't wait for the water line to get installed...

I'll be in the market for a nice quality Bourbon Red Tom turkey and widely built, dark laying Black Copper Marans next season. Anyone know anyone anywhere near SW Ohio? Could do it from shipped eggs come March. Could trade, our Blue Birchen Marans are turning out pretty nice, as are the existing Bourbon Reds and Narragansett turkeys. I'll get spendy for quality though! The last batch of BCMs I bought were disappointing and I only have 1 decent hen. With how the girls are laying, I should remove that rooster too since I don't know the egg color he hatched from.

My Blue Birchens have far better egg color and type, and I thought it was going to be the other way around!

Just in case you are interested, you can also search on the NPIP website, by state. http://www.poultryimprovement.org/statesContent.cfm. Since you are in the Cincy area, you may want to search KY and IN as well - depending on how far you want to travel. Scroll through the pages that come up for the state - sometimes the page is not full, but there is another page after it. You will notice a whole lot of breed codes - what do they mean?? Well, the code for Black Copper Marans is R716. Here is the link to the breed code doc: http://www.poultryimprovement.org/documents/StockCodesAlphabetical12-19-2018.pdf the Marans are listed on Page 8 of this doc. Although a bit tedious, you have a source to search for NPIP breeders and hatcheries and a list of their breeds that are in the program.

Other poultry are listed as well, including turkey, on the NPIP breed codes list.

Good Luck in your search!

Hi (actually, I'm from Michigan, but have hated U of M with the fire of 1,000 suns all my life so seem to fit in well here). We are still tossing that around. We like Buckeyes, Wyandottes, Australorps, Orpingtons, Dominiques, RI Reds, Barred Rocks, Leghorns (I like the brown ones, myself)...oh dear...my brain is clicking off as it has been a long day, and I'm forgetting one that makes me go "awww" every time I see it! I think the New Jersey Giants are neat, too. What kind(s) do you have?
