OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Brisk but sunny here today. :)

Has anyone preserved their eggs in lime solution? Is it safe to give shells from those eggs back to my flock, or is it safer not to do so?
I have 12 dz eggs currently since everyone decided to get back into the swing of things at once šŸ™„ so I'm going to do this but I'm not sure about giving the shells back to the girls

Ha, mine too! Using the limed eggs for baking, mostly, since I hate to waste them after the girls put in the work laying and I preserved them. ;)

6 inches here I'm not a fan
So sorry for you. I am Blessed to live out of the most of the snow belt. We have had Blizzards before but it has been quite a while since that has happened here. These last two winters have been great here so we have been extremely fortunate.

I preserve my eggs in water glass solution every year. I would not give the shells back to the girls

I would be afraid that the lime could mess up the compost. Maybe not but I toss mine. I save the normal shells to put in my garden but toss the lime ones
I was thinking that it was similar to the lime, used on grass (calcium magnesium), but it's calcium hydroxide....not a chemist, so not sure what harm it would do.

Yes, this, and also my hens tend to get into the compost pile. Apparently it is their right to do so, or that is what they tell me...
