Ya the cattails can overtake your pond in no time. I tried to have a small patch off one end of pond at one time but got tired of trying to contain them to that smaller area that was impossible. So, I have eradicated them altogether now no cattails allowed.

What'd you do to eradicate them? Chemicals, or just manually pull them out?

Both, pulling if only a few in an area and you can get them when they are small/young. And a chemical used to mix and spray on green exposed area like you would use roundup on weeds. But it's made for ponds I believe it was called shore clear, Sprayed in fall around Labor Day. I'll see if I can find exactly what it was, I used.

That was easy enough, found a jug in shed its called (Shore-Klear) aquatic herbicide. For use on emerged aquatic weeds and brush. I was told by person who turned me on to it to mix 2oz per gal on or very near Labor Day and that worked for me. Just sprayed it on upper green area of cattails wetting them well with a pump-up sprayer just like you use round-up/weed killer. It took 2 years to fully eradicate, a few came back after first year treatment and needed gone over again and no more came back after that. Hope this is helpful for your ponds good luck.

Non that I have seen from my use it's been 2 or 3 years since I have needed and used it for 3 seasons in a row. My pond is fully stocked with fish plenty of bull frogs and just removed 2 huge snapping turtles last week neither had 2 heads and plenty of waterfowl. No ill effects that I have seen everything thriving since use.

Very sad. At least 100 horses were in the barn. Don't know any outcomes yet
