Glad to see so many Ohioans here. I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread but I'm hoping to find people somewhat near me!

Clintonville is part of Columbus, so same rules.

You have to petition for a permit, which requires permission from all your neighbors, health department inspection of your setup, submit annual plans showing sketches of the housing and detailed schedule of exactly how and when you do chores for poop removal and sanitation. Your run and coop have to have an "impervious floor" (though it is acceptable to pile dirt on top of the floor of the run if you want your birds to be able to have dust baths). You have to submit annual certifications of health for each bird from a vet. There's a maximum of one hour of foraging per day, only if your chickens are physically incapable of getting out of your yard, and only under direct supervision. You're expected to follow them during the foraging hour to remove all poop from the yard. And to answer your question, maximum 5 chickens, and you're right, no roosters.

Most people find some of these rules a little excessive, so they operate under a "don't ask, don't tell" kind of arrangement. So it helps to live in an area where the neighbors think it's cool that you have chickens.

(Can you imagine if you had to follow the same rules to own a cat or a dog?)

I hope one day someone in Columbus will get things going to petition for more reasonable rules. sigh.

No kidding - it might good if people had to follow the same for dogs! As most dont clean up after their dogs!
That does sound really stringent - well at least you get to have chickens!

Hey all you Buckeyes! I am a Buckeye too, but retired form the Air Force in South Carolina. Always thought I'd come back to Ohio, but when I retired, my kids were in high school and then college, and then my daughter married a man form here. On top of all that the AF offered me a swell civilian job, so I think I'll be staying. I was born in Chillicothe where my family had a farm, moved to Dayton where my dad worked for Generous Motors, and from 10 on lived in Xenia in Greene County. I have a little 9.25 acre piece of land in Ridgeway, SC (population 450). We have a log home and I have 8 chickens in a log chicken coop (check out my page). We have 2 EE, 2 RR, 2 BR, and 2 BO. What a lot of fun they are! I will eventually get a couple of Buckeyes too as how cool is it to have chickens named Buckeyes!?! You know down here everyting is Gamecocks for the University of SC and General Thomas Sumter of Revolutionary War fame. I shall ccontinue to check in and see what is up with my fellow Buckeyes! Cheers!

Hi all! Im originally from Dayton, but live about 20 miles northwest. I'm new at this. We got 6 bantams and 6 pullets from Tractor Supply. Not sure what they all are yet. but they sure are cute. Going on 4 weeks old. We also have 2 Yorkies and a Golden Retriever. 3 grown kids and 3 grandkids. I said the chicks were for the grandkids,, but really they're for me. Every morning I come home from work and go out to the garage to feed & water them and just sit and watch them. This morning one of the little bantams picked up a piece of wood shaving and ran with it all around the pen, chirping like crazy, while 2 of the others chased her. Never thought chicks were so playful.

from SW Ohio!
Chicks are better to watch than tv lol....
When one grabs something and runs around with it and the others chase it reminds me of peewee football.
It cracks me up!

Anyone happen to know if there is a listing of cities in Ohio that currently allow chickens? Trying to do a bit of research and if there is a list out there somewhere it would sure save me a good bit of time.

Thanks
