Ohio National....Who's all going?

Quote:

Thanks, Neil. I've already contacted them both - nothing. Nether do Dick Boulanger or Rose Isgrigg - both lost their LF to predators this year. Just figured I'd try and see what else may be hiding out there.

BTW, last time I was there (2007) they had a great mini-seminar on how to choose good laying birds. Will there be anything like that this time? I need a class in genetics...

Thanks, Neil. Checked out the website and couldn't find a breeder/member listing. Contacted the secretary who was prompt at saying they would be there with birds but didn't provide any contact information on others that I might contact. Tried the Bantam Club too and followed all of their links provided and none had Brahmas. Gotta say that my venture into chickens has proven frustrating! Guess I'm use to goats where most people have websites. Chicken people seem to hide.

We were hoping to come down Friday afternoon and the maybe again on Saturday early morning.

Yes there is a difference, it is like going to Westminster Kennel Club show and saying to a Breeder/Handler " Is this a girl or a boy doggie?" Instead of is this a grump or Dog? The correct terms, banty is a backyard slag term, where Bantam is the correct term. Also the term for a male is a "cock" not Roo. And the only people who use the term "lockdown" are on BYC, if you ask someone in the showroom about it, expect the strangest look, they have never heard it and will think your out there for using it. I have seen it first hand when it was asked to an oldtimer at a recent show.

Hey - that's how we all learn - just stay away from the "old guys" until you learn more. When I took hold of a pullet I was buying from an "old guy" at Ohio - after handing her to me by her legs - he rolled his eyes and shook his head at me when I held her up high on my chest so I could look into her face and talk to her. Yeah, those old guys know a ton - and I learned a lot from them, and have more questions piled up for this time - but be cool around them until you learn the lingo and the body language. No kissing of the chickies!

Getting boxes and cages together; and being extra nice to the husband...........
love.gif
going Friday afternoon to do a little "chicken shopping".
All our nice (4H show) quality chickens got eaten by a raccoon in the spring,
rant.gif
leaving me with a ragtag bunch of not the best quality chickens. They are treated as pets. Though there a couple I could eat if forced to. Looking for hens to go with any of my bachelor cocks. Mainly looking for
1. a pair of bantam longtails; preferably sumatras
2. a pair of small in size OEG, anycolor except white
3. a pair of wheaten japanese to replace my beloved beautiful Asbury
4. maybe a serama pair just for fun.

Any breeder names? They are only shown at the county fair by my 10 year old son; so looking for birds a little less than perfect but a little better than pet quality.
