Ohoh Bald eagle circling!

The bald eagle from a slough about a mile away way is circling the yard,

hope he decides to move on. Mongo, the rooster alarmed and ran the hens under a trailer

and the turkeys are freaked out and are hiding in a brush pile

and the wife's goose in under a truck

but we will have to see what happens. Field is too big to cover so all I can do is stay alert, lock the dog in the field and hope for the best.

Hopefully it will get discouraged with everyone hiding and keep going. Our little lake at the end of our pasture froze out this winter - dead fish everywhere when is started to thaw, and the Bald Eagles that were migrating through stopped here for a few weeks to help clean them up. There were about 50 of them in and around our grove, circling the place, and eating dead fish. My chickens stayed locked in their coop/run until all but the local ones moved on. I wasn't too concerned at first, until a couple of them started circling really low over where the chickens hang out when they're free-ranging.

I live right next to a large river here and see eagles almost every day,the only problem i have ever had was a few years ago an eagle attacked a new born calf,the mother was very quick to come to the rescue and chased it off.I have free range chickens,ducks,geese and turkey's.I'm not saying an eagle won't go after one of your birds,but i think they are more interested in fish.

I figured as much, too, I just didn't want to chance it with all of them here. Our lake is probably 300 yards from the house, so they were all very close to the place. After they moved on, the chickens got to go back to free-ranging. I can't imagine one attacking a newborn calf! Good thing the mama was quick to chase it away.

If a pair of eagles can take down a Blacktail deer, I don't give my birds much of a chance if it catches them in the open
