Ok--all you smart chick people--HELP!

I had never heard of Wheaton Americana's before---I have sssooo much to learn!!

That pic of the 6 week old looks just like what a couple of my babies will grow into!!!

So--all these guys--that are visable in the photo--are Americana's then!

I notice they are being called EE's. When I pronounced these like Amer--America--a friend corrected me and pronounced it with the E, like Ereicana--or something!!! So--it's the same breed?

Hate to go with questions, but I want to learn!!

Thanks!

No there not the same breeds... EEs are amaricacana or aracana mixes. As far as i know thats all the hatcherys sell (even if the don't call them that) It's really hard to find pure americana/aricanas. Don't worry about the questions... Only way your gonna learn!

And yes it looks like all your girls are EEs (since there mixes they don't have a standard color)

Those are all Easter Eggers.

Even Buff Ameraucanas have slate legs and don't have ANY black or white on them. (plus buff ameraucanas are VERY rare)

I should have been clearer in my discription. Sorry. The Easter Egger my neighbor has, its coloring and patten, looks a lot like a Wheaten Ameraucana, not it IS a pure bred Wheaten Ameraucana. I meant that to give you an idea of the feathering color of the bird when it matured.

Gotcha ! Thanks! I Googled and learned there is such a breed. However, you did use a lower case w when you mentioned the coloring. I took it and ran in the wrong direction!!

Hi sweetie -- looks from your pics that those could be a whitish Americauna. Not to worry -- they are fine chickens! I love ours. Good luck. -- Irene

Yep! Those are my favorite looks of EE's. And real wheaten ameraucanas are gorgeous! You are very lucky to have those. I used to have two and they are just great.

They are Easter Eggers and there's nothing wrong with that.

Giving you this information because you asked about:

Any bird labeled "Americana" or "Araucana" by a hatchery (or feed store that gets their birds from hatcheries) are a cross breed - not pure. EE's can lay any color egg, from blue or green to brown.

Pure Ameraucana's (notice the difference in spelling) you need to get from a breeder, and they lay blue eggs. Here are the accepted colors for true Ameraucana's.

Pure Araucana's in the US are usually rumpless and tufted. They also lay blue eggs and are pretty rare. There are a few breeders here on BYC that breed them. Here's some pics of Araucana's.
