OK for coop bedding AND DLM?

I think your math is a tad off ... I know up that far north you use the metric system, but you posted "feet & yards" ...

Here is how I figure ... 12' X 12' = 144 square feet, 6" deep (half a foot) ... so divide your square feet by "2" to get "cubic feet" (12"X12"X12") ... 144÷2=72

A "square yard" is 36"X36" or ... 3' X 3' = 9 sq ft ...

A cubic yard is 36"X36"X36" so ... 9 X 3 = 27 "Cubic Feet" to the "Cubic Yard" ...

For you to cover your 12'X12' run 6" deep, you need 72 "Cubic Feet" of wood chips ...

72 cu ft ÷ 27 cu ft in a cu yd = 2.66 "Cubic Yards"

However ... if you get 6-8 yards ... you will have plenty of "left overs" to age, or ... just get one load now, and make your own to age to add later ... :)

Seriously I appreciate the thought you put into this, you are correct and would save me trips I don't need!

I omitted a key point in my statement above, my coop will be 10' by 16' and I will want to fill it to 6" depth as well. I extrapolated (in my mind only) to get to the 6-8 cubic yards I figured I needed.

Make sure you check what size branches will go into the chipper, and mentally diminish the size somewhat. It’s like the ratings we see for prefab chicken coops - more aspirational than reality.

Well. It’s not nearly as bad as the chicken coop numbers, actually. Those are a serious departure from reality.

I searched the make/model and looked at reviews. It is supposed to take 3" but several folks said that would work if the branch was straight but jammed if it was crooked. LOL lots of branches are crooked.

If I buy it I will experiment to find it's sweet spot.

Loose Ends:
  1. I bagged the 7.5hp gas wood chipper I found on kijiji, too small as I learned when I dug in. I will look at a Value Leader 4" PTO Wood Chipper on the weekend. (go big or go home).
  2. I got a picture of the clean shredded pine available from same source as the pine/bark mix I looked at first.

The 1st mix is 10km away, the clean pine is 50km and I have only a small trailer.

The only way is buy a truck load and have it delivered; guessing $300? I think the mix works both covered run and coop?

Maybe, I don't know...would want to touch it first.
Pics on the internet can be deceiving, but I am a super-skeptic.
Am going to a landscaping place today to see what they have for chips/mulch.
