ok here is what DR said ...** UPDATE **

St John's Wart is an herbal remedy to help with mild depression and is all natural. And Melatonin is an EXCELENT sleep aid that is also that is all natural. I have used them both at times and they work very well and are completely non addicting. Good luck billing your insurance company for your medically necessary chicks LOL

Well said cowboy. I might add that when someone has low level depression they often blame it on other problems (not enough sleep, work stress, etc). I know, because I've suffered from dysthymia (latin for melancholy or low level depression) since I was 14. Mine can't be fixed, due to a birth injury.
Sleep is more important than most people really think about and might just fix your problem. Try the herbals if you want, after 2 bad experiences with em I stick to prescriptions, but that's just me. I still can't see where a little benadryl would hurt.
Good luck!

I had always felt that something wasn''t quite right for about 15 years before I admitted I was depressed. Up till then I was very anti-pill, but now that's changed-I would rather enjoy my life and take the darn pills. I will only live once, and I want to enjoy it. I am just sorry I didn't get help sooner. It's now been 7 years, and I have enjoyed most of it.

If your depression and trouble sleeping have just started recently (not something you have had an ongoing problem with) you might consider getting tested for heavy metal poisoning. My 9 year old son had mercury poisoning last year. I am not to sure about the other heavy metals but mercury poisoning causes depression, trouble sleeping, pain in legs, burning sensation in knees and palms of hands. Doctors, at least the doctors we took my son to did not want to think this was the problem, do not want to treat the problem they just want to treat the symptoms. This cannot be tested for with just drawing blood, it has to be a 24 hour urine collection or hair analysis. My son was in Dallas Children's Hospital last year and had 2 24 hour urine tests done both showing high levels of Mercury present but the doctors still wanted to give him medicine to "improve his mood", & another medicine to help him sleep. We told them just to treat him for the mercury. He did have to take 2 kinds of high blood pressure medicine and the chelation therapy to get the mercury out of him faster. He is fine now, but I just think what if we just went ahead and did what the doctors said and give him anti-depression medicine and medicine to help him sleep?
If you live in an older home, it is very likely you have mercury there. Ours was build in 1970, and the mercury came out of the hood over the stovetop, but it is there in the thermostat that controls central heat and air, switches and things like that. Anyway, sorry this is so long, just wanted you to know that there are other causes of symptons like that.

The other thing about hypoglycemia, is that it can effect your brain chemistry and actually cause depression and other problems, when your brain isn't getting enough glucose. You can also have a lot of agitation, from the elevated levels of stress hormone, while your body is unsuccessfully trying to raise your blood glucose levels. That can also mess up your sleep. Depression can also be unrelated to the hypoglycemia, but it may not be.

I will say this everyone here is a wonderful source of information - I learn so much about everything !
Well I have been doing pretty good the last few days ( had a bad day yesterday - woke up in a really bad mood and everything seemed to bother me, was not a fun day for DH or myself ) I will give myself a few more days and see how everything goes if this seems to be happening more than I will see about getting on some Meds to get everything back in control.
There was no reason to be in a bad mood yesterday - chickens are all fine, dogs are fine I got most of my christmas decorations up ( love how the coop looks LOL ) but it was just one of those days where I was just not happy I guess. Feeling better today, thank god if that mood had been any worse or lasted till today DH was going to move into the coop with the girls and clyde !!

thank you everyone for all the great advice - some of it I have wrote down to ask Dr about.

Julie

ok well I thought I would update - just in case you were wondering -
past few days everything has been going fine - I have been feeling alright and getting some sleep, but sunday was a very bad day here - nothing I did seemed to help, it seemed everything DH did got on my bad side, I felt like crying all day and the more we tried not to argue the more it seemed we did I felt bad about ruining his only day off from job #2, he works 7 days a week doing a paper route and 6 days as a tire guy just to keep our little family running and than to have a wife that is depressed and acting like a nut job does not help I went to DR today and he said I still dont need Meds but keep doing what I have been doing and he also said that I will have some bad days thrown in there but to just keep an eye on myself and when things look like I can no longer control them or it seems more than I can handle I will get some Celubrax ( sp ) it is for depression.
So here I go plugging away at things.

Julie

Best of luck, Julie. Depression is a powerful thing. It is good that you are talking to a doctor and trying to work things out. That will help keep your family together.

It is "Celebrex," the medicine that you are referring to.

I really hope you can pull through this well. Hang in there!

If you can't shake it on your own, take the medicine. There is no shame in that, it helps everyone.

I have experience living with someone who had severe depression. Life got a lot better when she finally went to a doctor and started taking medicine. Now she takes proactive steps to manage it. Win Win for everyone involved!

And yes, your DH will have a lot to do with this! No guessing needed
