If your depression and trouble sleeping have just started recently (not something you have had an ongoing problem with) you might consider getting tested for heavy metal poisoning. My 9 year old son had mercury poisoning last year. I am not to sure about the other heavy metals but mercury poisoning causes depression, trouble sleeping, pain in legs, burning sensation in knees and palms of hands. Doctors, at least the doctors we took my son to did not want to think this was the problem, do not want to treat the problem they just want to treat the symptoms. This cannot be tested for with just drawing blood, it has to be a 24 hour urine collection or hair analysis. My son was in Dallas Children's Hospital last year and had 2 24 hour urine tests done both showing high levels of Mercury present but the doctors still wanted to give him medicine to "improve his mood", & another medicine to help him sleep. We told them just to treat him for the mercury. He did have to take 2 kinds of high blood pressure medicine and the chelation therapy to get the mercury out of him faster. He is fine now, but I just think what if we just went ahead and did what the doctors said and give him anti-depression medicine and medicine to help him sleep?
If you live in an older home, it is very likely you have mercury there. Ours was build in 1970, and the mercury came out of the hood over the stovetop, but it is there in the thermostat that controls central heat and air, switches and things like that. Anyway, sorry this is so long, just wanted you to know that there are other causes of symptons like that.
