Ok, I know Cochins have freaky eyes but something is wrong with my Oprah

O.K. so you just happened to catch that while taking photos.

The eyes still look swollen and possibly have a discharge. Have you been treating her with anything?
Yes, I just happened to catch it. Sometimes I I see her using her 3rd lid but most of the time not. I have not treated her with anything because I do not know what to treat with. Yes, it does look and is swollen. It is not oozing or pussy. It is dry as a bone. So weird, right? This is part of my dilemma.

Have you added chickens to your flock within the last 30 days?
To me, she has swelling around the eye, maybe a little pus or watery/bubbly discharge(?) Have you treated her eyes with anything (flushing with saline, eye ointment, etc.)?

If you have vet care that can perform some testing, that is best.

General eye care is to flush with saline and use an eye ointment like Terramycin.

I will mix up a saline solution now. I'll find the ratio and do it. I will purchase terramycin in the morning. THANK YOU. What are your thoughts on Veterycin?

To make sterile saline boil 1 teaspoon of salt per quart of water for 15 minutes. You can store excess in a sterilized jar for up to 24hrs, then make fresh.

Vetericyn is very good, it can be used in the eyes as well. I believe they make an eye gel as well (or used to).

Yes, I have V. I'll run in and make the saline solution now. I even have syringes for flushing!

Guess what? Terramycin does not need a prescription anywhere except California and guess where I live? I found some Neo-Poly B Sulfates and Dexa eye ointment I have left over from one of my dogs (I never toss meds). I did some research and It appears fine to use on poultry so I'm going to have to use that. It won't hurt, burn, kill her. I won't use it for more that a few days if it shows promise and I'll only use a teeny tiny amount as poultry are so sensitive. I made the saline solution so here I go. I'll post pics along the way. She won't like me taking her away from her babies but it will only be a minute and she knows I'll be helping her. I do lift her sometimes for a cuddle during her baby moments so she is used to it....sorta. She's more of a cuddler when she isn't raising babies. I love her so much.

Sounds good, I hope the ointment helps. Look forward to more photos!
