OK, I'm jumping in to battery hen rescue...now what?!!!!

My game hen Miss Lydia my first ever chicken is the same way, she does not like to go out in the cold or snow and we have a foot of snow right now, everytime I go out to check on them she's up on the roost with her feet covered.

They will most likely take it from the jugular vein as this is the largest vein closest to the surface of the skin. When I was a vet assistant, this is where we'd take blood from cats and young animals.

The girls were outside today sunning themselves while I clened out the coop. They spilled their water and the straw was just a mess. I bought a new plastic water container with a built in heater...not as easy to handle as the metal ones. I spilled it all over myself and the coop floor. Well, at least the floor got a good rinse.
Before putting them in for the night I noticed one poop right in front of me...and it WASN'T watery!!! Finally their intestines are adjusting and their food isn't shooting their bodies. The yogurt and wheat germ seem to be really helping to slow down their metabolism.

I do think the biggest one is a roo. He was at the fence facing off with my tiny bantam EE roo. It was so cute!

sounds like they are settling in, that is so cool, will it be bad to have another roo? I have one of those round heated water bowls they are hard to carry. I really like them though, thanks for updating us on how they're doing. Keep up the good work

Hi y'all. Since you are all so clearly concerned and love these birds, please take a moment to visit a website that is run by United Poultry Concerns. Just google and you'll find them. A chicken saunctuary, yes, but also chicken and farm animal advocates. Chicken factories cover this country, moving millions of chickens per day through our back hiways and biways. The inhumane way these chickens are treated and kept is shocking. These are not the farms of our foremothers/fathers. Next time you see all those chickens laid out at Safeway, you'll know how they lived and how they died. If you've never seen images like this, brace yourself for the discovery, and join us in our fight for chickens and all farm animals. These animals need all the help we can give them! Thank you kickinchicken and all others who join in this fight.
