OK, I'm jumping in to battery hen rescue...now what?!!!!

They are very pretty! And I am sure they just can't believe they are finally free. If you were here I'd give ya a hug, they are special and so are you. Blessing!

I really, really hope I am wrong, but those "battery hens" sure look a lot like Cornish X cockerels to me. I very well may be and hope I am wrong but the body type does not look right for spent laying hens.

You are correct sourland, they are cornish xs. I got so overwhelmed and disgusted at what I saw and just took the first 3 that I saw. They were filthy and smelly and so afraid. I am going back and taking my time. I really want x battery hens. These 3 cornish gals are very lucky I was so upset. The place was just horrible. A prison. Worse. It was just terrible. The cages of live birds were right there next to the killing and butcher tables. Dead chickens, stripped and hanging. How awful for the live ones to see this over and over!
Check out my other posts...I am filing a complaint with the DEM and possibly the state health board. I am getting video and/or pictures next time.

Hopefully they are pullets and not cockerels, Gritsar has a thread going where she rescued some. I think the cockerels had some serious problems, but the pullets are doing really well. As a matter of fact one has even gone broody. Good luck at giving them a better quality life.

Oh I am on a mission people! I called the DEM about the poor care of the chickens, I am calling the health department regarding the gross conditions of the "food" and I will be calling INS because I am sure those meat cutters are illegals...I worked at a meat packing plant many years ago and nearly every meat cutter was hispanic, didn't speak english and were here on a so-called work visa...in Rhode Island we have a huge problem with illegals.
I will get this place shut down or revamped to be more humane somehow.
I still cannot get over the fact that they had silkies there....for meat? Really?
